Clips of Kendrick Lamar singing to his and J. Cole’s collaborative song Alright have spread like wildfire across social media. The former took to the Kia Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles stage on Wednesday, June 19, to perform his The Pop Out: Ken and Friends Juneteenth concert. It comes as a surprise to many that K. Dot included J. Cole's vocals in his song, as the two were seemingly feuding weeks ago.
X page @JColeVillle was one of the many who took to the social networking site to attach a video of the Humble crooner using J. Cole’s vocals in his Alright freestyle track. In the 19-second video attached below, one can hear J. Cole’s voice at the 0:05 mark.
The video was quick to go viral across social media platforms and has already amassed several million views.
The same account also speculated that Kendrick Lamar could seemingly be indicating that his relationship with J. Cole “will be ‘Alright.’
Meanwhile, many expressed excitement over the two possibly collaborating again or being on the same side of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake war. Some reactions to the clip read:
“NOTHING Dot does is accidental… everything is always intentional,” an X user said.
“I hear it. Prob because he respects Cole and never had beef with him in the first place,” another internet user stated.
“Subtle way of saying him and cole still bruddas,” another platform user said online.
Kendrick Lamar using J. Cole’s voiceover during his recent performance comes as a surprise, as the latter and Drake’s First Person Shooter song collab triggered K. Dot’s war with Drizzy. Other reactions to the viral video read:
“they still cool we getting that collab !!!,” another X user stated.
“It’s official… the collab album is dropping this Friday,” another platform user joked.
“I’m glad I’m not the only one who caught that and wasn’t tripping,” another internet user stated.
At the time of writing this article, neither K. Dot nor J. Cole had confirmed an upcoming collaboration. Other reactions to the concert moment read:
“It was never beef, Cole pulled a power move. Why beef with an artist you help it on? It like downgrading yourself for a fame/ relevance…,” another platform user stated.
“I knew the respect was there for Cole,” another X user opined.
“Bro is calculated,” an internet user said.
“Yo, bro, we should do a project"- Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole were once rumored to drop an album together
During an appearance on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Space podcast in November 2023, J. Cole revealed that an album between him and Kendrick Lamar was “a real thing.” The She Knows rapper stated:
“In a nutshell, [Lamar] had pulled up on me at No I.D.’s spot after we was already building this relationship, and I had these beats at the time and I was playing them for him. So he took them, and, you know, in that moment, we talked about, ‘Yo, bro, we should do a project.’ At that time he’s not on like that, but I’m f**kin’ with him.”
Sadly, the album never fructified. J. Cole explained that “time and life” did not let the two collaborate.
Although they never made an album together, Kendrick Lamar appeared on J. Cole’s A Tale of 2 Citiez and Forbidden Fruit tracks, with the latter appearing on the former’s Alright song.
