Days after popular rapper Julio Foolio was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Tampa hotel, the sheriff’s office spoke up on the incident and talked about the “glorification of violence on social media” and how “young people think this is a game.”
In the press conference that took place on Monday, June 24, 2024, Sheriff T.K. Waters said:
"They make it like it's a video game, it's not. This is real life. He has a mother, he has parents, siblings probably, and friends. They have to deal with these kinds of losses and it's unfortunate. Now, the next thing is, these groups, I won't name them, they know who they are.”
“We're not gonna tolerate any retribution, any revenge. We're gonna watch, we're gonna be around paying attention to what's going on," Waters continued.
Florida-based rapper Julio Foolio was shot and killed on Sunday, June 23, 2024, just two days after his birthday. The police later revealed that as Foolio was leaving the property, he was gunned down and killed.
The shooting also left three other victims injured, who were rushed to the hospital. However, the three injured people were saved and are now in stable condition.
“We’re going to keep them off balance” — Details about Foolio’s death revealed as Sherrif’s office releases a statement
As the sheriff’s office addressed the death of the popular rapper, he reiterated that people cannot keep “doing whatever they want to.” Waters said:
“We’re going to keep them off balance. So you can’t come in here and start shooting up neighbourhoods, cities and cars and doing whatever you want to do. It ain’t cool now. It’s over now, it's over for Jones, its permanent. Now we have to deal with the mess of cleaning it up. If it takes us following them one at a time, we will follow them one at a time.”
Furthermore, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw also spoke to the media and stated that they have guaranteed arrests coming their way, as they have gathered many leads surrounding Foolio's death. He also stated how the police are working day and night on the case.
Furthermore, Fox 13 News also reported that many neighbors living in the area are now fearful, as one of them said:
"They're not from our community, but it's happening in our community. The shooting that happened on Sunday, that is too close to home. I can't comfortably sit in the parking lot because there might be a shooting. I don't want my son to witness it. I don't want to get in the crossfire.”
While police claim to be investigating the case, no arrests have yet been made. Hence, the question about who killed Foolio remains unsolved. Nonetheless, even after 3 days of Foolio's passing away, tributes are constantly flooding on social media, as the news of his death has left the masses shocked and saddened.
