A video of Jay-Z's lawyer, Alex Spiro, uploaded on X earlier today, has gone viral. In the 1-minute-long clip, posted by @ArtOfDialogue_, Spiro said:

"Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs' case or Mr. Combs. They knew each other professionally for a number of years, just like in all professions... There is no closer association between any of them."

Spiro's statement about there being no friendship between Jay-Z and Diddy has attracted the attention of netizens on the social media platform, with many of them reacting to it in the comments.

One netizen wrote:

"We've seen the videos going back 20 years."

Some netizens pointed out that Spiro's statement added more suspicion to Jay-Z's name "for no reason," while others said Diddy and the So Ghetto rapper were like brothers.

"I was about to believe that J was innocent until his lawyer says this" - commented one X user.
"Added suspicion to his name for no reason" - added another.
"They're more like brothers" - posted a third one.
"Diddy is never going to the Roc Nation brunch again, I'm afraid!!" - replied a fourth user.
"WHAT?? at this point his lawyer is flat out lying because everyone knows Jay Z and Diddy were best friends for over 20 years… I can’t" - wrote a fifth user.

Meanwhile, one netizen appeared to be in agreement with Alex's claim, adding that the Roc Nation owner always had a "clear distinct independence" from Combs and his record label.

"True. Jay Z has always had a clear distinct independence from Diddy and Bad Boy Records... He sbould just come out and say he's never liked Diddy and that whatever technical friendliness he displyed was merely a formal act of kindness and proffesionalism." - commented a sixth user.

The tweet has received over 473K views on X, with over 2K likes, 760 reshares, and 450 comments (at the time of writing this article.)

Spiro said Jay-Z was "completely innocent" in an NBC interview

The video clip of Alex Spiro that's currently circulating online is an excerpt from an on-camera interview the attorney gave to NBC News, in which he talked about his client, Jay-Z, and Diddy:

"There is no friendship or longtime bond here...just because they knew each other, know each other, that doesn’t mean anything."

Spiro added that Carter is "completely innocent" and is "expected to be cleared of this in the coming days." Spiro's statement comes as a response to the amended s*xual assault civil lawsuit filed against Jay-Z and Diddy on December 8.

Per Variety, the lawsuit was filed by an anonymous Jane Doe, who claimed that both rappers r*ped her in 2000 after bringing her to an MTV VMAs afterparty in New York; the plaintiff also alleged that she was 13 years old at the time.

Jane Doe's lawsuit was initially filed in October, mentioning only Diddy as a defendant, but was amended two months later to add the Holy Grail rapper as a co-defendant as well.

Per the media outlet, Jay-Z has denied the allegations made in the lawsuit and filed a counter-suit against Doe's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, accusing him of "[amplifying] false narratives, exploiting the legal process to generate media attention and damage Mr. Carter’s reputation.”

Jay-Z's accuser told NBC about the inconsistencies in her lawsuit

Another new development in the civil lawsuit filed against Jay-Z occurred on December 14, when the anonymous Jane Doe acknowledged several inconsistencies in her lawsuit.

Jane Doe came forward to NBC News on Saturday, saying:

"I have made some mistakes".

While still standing by her allegations, the plaintiff shared that while her father picked her up after the assault at the afterparty in 2000, he doesn't recall it.

A celebrity at the afterparty that she claimed to have spoken to, was also not in New York at the time. Lastly, images from the said evening indicate that Shawn Carter was at a different location than the one described by the victim in the lawsuit.

When the news outlet reached out to Tony Buzbee for a comment regarding the inconsistencies, the attorney wrote in an email:

"Our client remains fiercely adamant that what she has stated is true, to the best of her memory. We will continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data to the extent it exists. Because we have interrogated her intensely, she has even agreed to submit to a polygraph. I’ve never had a client suggest that before."

Buzbee also added in the email that the particular case was referred to him by another firm.
