Curtis Jackson III, who goes by the stage name 50 Cent, recently opened up about wasting time arguing with Fat Joe and Cam’ron. In his Wednesday, July 31, 2024, interview for The Hollywood Reporter's cover story, the In Da Club rapper reflected on the highs and lows in his career and life.
At one point, the interviewer questioned if there was anything he regretted doing, prompting the rapper to admit:
"Look, I think we wasted too much time arguing, me and Fat Joe, me and Cam’ron. There’s other guys like Jada(kiss), we cleared it up easier. But we wasted time because it was just the competitive nature. It wasn’t like we crossed paths and had real heat for each other."
50 Cent and Cam'ron began feuding in 2007 after an argument during their appearance on Hot 97. On the other hand, the rapper's beef with Fat Joe was spurred on due to the latter's connection with Ja Rule, with whom Curtis has a long-standing feud. The Queens rapper has since resolved his rivalry with both Cam'ron and Joe.
"It went on more with Joe because he’s more like me"— 50 Cent on his friendship with Fat Joe
The 49-year-old rapper from Queen added that his feud with Fat Joe (real name: Joseph Antonio Cartagena) lasted longer as they were more alike in character. He added
"It went on more with Joe because he’s more like me, he’s closer in character to me. When we’re at odds, we are at odds, and we did that for a long time."
50 Cent explained that there was no altercation or any specific thing that sparked his beef with Cartagena other than his (Joe's) friendship with Ja Rule. However, he added:
"Now he’s like my friend, and I don’t care that he has relationships with people that I don’t, because he’s always had those relationships."
In 2005, Curtis brought Fat Joe into his beef with Ja by dropping the diss triack Piggy Back. Joe responded with his diatribe, My FoFo. Things reached a head at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards when the pair exchanged jabs in front of the audience.
They buried the hatched at the 2012 BET Awards in honor of the death of their mutual friend, Chris Lightly. In his memoir, The Book of Jose, Cartagena described the moment they ended their rivalry. He wrote:
"I performed and 50 ends up performing right after me and he stops right next to me, and he puts his hands out and he says: ‘Peace for Chris Lighty’... And I said: ‘Peace.’ I shook his hand, and we’ve been brothers ever since."
Elsewhere, the Many Men hitmaker addressed his 20-year-long beef with Ja, saying that he has never spoken to his rival.
Earlier this year, Jackson and Cartagena were spotted together at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. In October 2023, he named 50 Cent’s album, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ as one of the greatest albums of all time.
Cam'ron or Fat Joe have not responded to 50 Cent's comments at the time of writing this article.
