Rapper Akbar V has come under internet scrutiny following her recent comments about August Alsina. The controversy began on Sunday, August 18, 2024, when the rapper took to Instagram to call out Alsina for comments he made earlier this year on Nick Cannon's show Counsel Culture.
During the Counsel Culture episode in June 2024, the No Love singer discussed his s*xuality and opened up about not putting labels on who he chooses to love. He stated that God helped him discover different people, places, and things. Adding to that, the greatest gift God gave him was exposure.
However, Alsina's comments did not sit well with Akbar V, who quickly called him out in several rants on Instagram, stating:
"Jesus ain't did nun like@this yall play with God tooooo much ... he gives us a choice..... how did God do this and he says it's a sin ... so do that means God a liar ?"
"Don't put God in your worldly foolishness" — Akbar V about August Alsina's comments
In his Counsel Culture interview earlier this year, August Alsina stated that he cannot define himself into a bracket and explained that if love is a language, then he is fluent in love when it speaks to him. He continued:
"When people want you to define yourself as whether you're gay, straight, bis*xual, or whatever it is you was just talking about, love is much more complex than that and has much more depth."
Former Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta star Akbar V took issue with the R&B singer's comments about God. She disagreed that God would lead August to love another man, as it is a sin. She wrote:
"I’m not the one to judge ’cause we all fall short of His glory, but don’t put God in your worldly foolishness."
In a separate IG story, she clarified that she is not against August Alsina but rather asserts that God didn't speak to him because "God don't like sin." She added that if it is "God who promotes sin" then tells us not to sin, then thats not God. She added that she was praying for her brother (referring to August), adding that she hoped one day he would find the truth about the "true living God."
Akbar's remarks sparked a discourse in her comment section, with internet users supporting her and criticizing her. This included her Love & Hip-Hop peer Zell Swag, who wrote she should be the last person judging someone:
"All the sending that you do on God's Internet, you shouldn't be the last person judging."
Angela Stanton, a right-wing media personality, commented:
"AK, I love you. Make sure you're prepared for the cancelling, hate, and backlash that comes with Truth Work. My prayers are with you."
Following the backlash for calling out August Alsina, Akbar V doubled down on her comments. She stated that God has given her a "platform to represent Him," and she chose to call out deception. She slammed other Christian influencers for being afraid to speak the truth.
August Alsina has not publicly reacted to the development.
