Rapper Drake recently shared a photo of a BMW and his friend on his Instagram story on July 21. After the photo went viral, many social media users claimed the rapper bought the same car in which rapper Tupac was shot.
AP News reported that Tupac was in the passenger side of a 1996 black BMW 750iL sedan. The driver of the car was Suge Knight, the head of Death Row Records.
The X account, @DailyRapFacts reported this information. Instagram user @youngcalifornia also stated the same and alleged that the car went for sale for $1.75 million recently.
Once the rumors of the rapper buying Tupac’s car went viral, netizens took to X to react to the whole thing. While some netizens are speculating it's the same car, others believe it's different.
“So Drake is doubling down on Kendrick hating him.. Drake accepting the villain role is wild,” said another X user.
“Idk why yall still feeding into this, he’s spiraling,” said one user.
“What he going to do sniff the seat,” another user wrote.
“He’s so weird!! Very corny buying a car that Tupac was killed in Still not like us,” another X user commented.
Other X users also emphasized the fact that it's not the same car.
“Different car but continue to farm the engagement,” commented an X user.
“The car drake has is a coupe…. It’s not even the same car,” clarified another user.
“That’s not the same model of car bro.. he is standing next to a old 3 series the other picture is a 7 series,” another one said.
“That’s not the same car lmao,” wrote another netizen.
More about Tupac's car and Drake's IG story
Recently, Drake shared an Instagram story of Niko standing in front of a BMW car. Now, some X and Instagram users like @DailyRapFacts and youngcalifornia and sources like Netflix Junkie also reported the same news in their July 21 article, speculating if it was the same car Tupac rode in.
American rapper Tupac Shakur exited the MGM Arena in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, sitting in the passenger seat of a 1996 black BMW 750iL sedan.
Shortly after, Tupac's car was stopped at a red light when a white Cadillac drove up to the passenger side and opened fire on the BMW.
Multiple bullets that went through the sedan's door and window wounded the rapper. As he was taken to the hospital right away, the unidentified attackers escaped. The hip-hop artist passed away from his gunshot wounds six days later.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reported on July 27, 2023, that Celebrity Cars on Dean Martin Drive was offering the black 750iL that Tupac once drove for $1.75 million.
It also stated that the general manager, Ryan Hamilton, said that the car had been completely restored to its pre-Shakur look.
Drake’s recent photo with the car or a similar-looking car garnered reactions from the netizens. Some reacted hilariously to it, others stated they were not the same car.
Tupac's estate recently threatened to sue Drake
Drake and Tupac share a history as NBC News reported on April 25 that the estate of the late rapper has threatened to sue Drake for one of his diss tracks against Kendrick Lamar.
The estate described the Toronto rapper's usage of an AI-generated voice of Shakur's voice as a "blatant abuse" of Shakur's legacy. This happened after Drake used AI to create a verse on Taylor Made Freestyle in Tupac's voice.
Billboard reported in their April 30 article that litigator Howard King informed the Canadian rapper in a letter that the Shakur estate was “deeply dismayed and disappointed” about the rapper using Tupac's voice.
The letter also threatened to "pursue all of its legal remedies" against Drake unless he confirmed within the next 24 hours that he would take down the track.
