The 2019 lawsuit that Cardi B filed against blogger Tasha K is still far from its settlement in the wake of Tasha filing for bankruptcy in May 2023. Per Billboard, Cardi's attorney filed a motion demanding for the bankruptcy case to be dismissed in December 2023.

Tasha's legal team made a response filing against the motion on Monday, January 6, in which the blogger urged the bankruptcy court to refuse requests made in the WAP rapper's filing, claiming that:

"Claimant [Cardi B] is not acting in her economic interest, but seeks to silence debtor [Tasha K] by ending her bankruptcy case and her career."

The root of the ongoing conflict between Tasha K and the Bodak Yellow rapper lies in the latter's defamation lawsuit filed against the blogger in 2019. In the lawsuit, Cardi accused Tasha of running a "malicious campaign" on social media as well as YouTube, aimed at hurting the Finesse rapper's reputation.

Jurors sided with Cardi B in her 2019 defamation lawsuit

In Cardi B's 2019 lawsuit, her attorney told the court that they tried and failed to get Tasha K to pull her videos down from the internet on multiple occasions.

The videos in question - which were cited in the lawsuit - involve a statement from the blogger claiming that the Bickenhead rapper had performed s*xual acts with beer bottles on stripper stages.

Other videos alleged that the rapper had contracted herpes; that she had done hard drugs; that she had cheated on her husband, Offset; and that she had been a pr*stitute.

The trial of the defamation lawsuit concluded in January 2020, the jurors sided with the Bongos rapper, holding Tasha liable for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

As an outcome, the blogger and her company were ordered to pay more than $2.5 million in damages, in addition to another $1.3 million to cover the legal fee incurred by Cardi B. Tasha K appealed the judgment again in the summer of 2022, which was rejected in March 2023, Billboard reported.

Per Billboard, the Hectic rapper had vowed to recover the defamation payment from Tasha K, tweeting that she was going to "come for everything" in February 2022, without mentioning the blogger directly.

However, in May 2023, the content creator filed a bankruptcy petition, claiming that she only had $58,595 of total assets, a large part of which came from a truck which was tied as collateral in an unpaid auto loan. Her other properties were listed to be worth $11,750, including two Louis Vuitton purses and $95 cash in her bank account.

In the petition, Tasha cited her trademark "UnWineWithTashaK" YouTube channel as an asset, but alleged that the value of the brand was "unknown."

According to Billboard, Cardi B's legal team quickly responded to the blogger's bankruptcy filing with a so-called adversary proceeding to prevent Tasha from dodging the damages she owed to the rapper.

In October 2023, Judge Scott M. Grossman ruled that Tasha would not be able to "discharge" the $3.4 million she owed to Cardi through the Chapter 11 process.

In the filing made by Tasha's legal team on Monday, January 6, the blogger claims that Cardi's filing is an alleged retaliation after Tasha K refused to sign a gag order, barring her from ever discussing the Drip rapper again. Her filing further reads:

"Having failed to bully debtor into accepting an overarching non-disparagement clause, Claimant filed the motion to dismiss to harm debtor’s career and end debtor’s bankruptcy case."

Whether or not Tasha K's filing to preserve her bankruptcy case will hold in the court remains to be seen.
