Tyquian Terrel Bowman, a.k.a. Quando Rondo, pleaded guilty to his federal drug trafficking case on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Last December, the FBI arrested the rapper on charges of conspiring with others to possess and distribute controlled substances, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana.
The news comes after Bowman reached a plea agreement in June after initially pleading not guilty and facing 20 years in prison if convicted. Rondo pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana. This brings his time behind bars down to up to five years.
In a press conference held outside the courtroom, the ABG hitmaker told WTOC:
"I really wanna give an apology to the city of Savannah. I wanna give an apology to my family and friends, loved ones and most of all my daughters for taking all my family and all my loved ones through this stressful point."
Per WTOC, the rapper said that he was guilty of wilfully joining a plan to obtain and distribute more than a dozen kilograms of cannabis.
Quando Rondo faces drug and gang-related charges in a separate case by the state of Georgia
Quando Rondo's troubles began in June 2023 when Chatham County cops arrested him (along with 18 others) on charges related to selling drugs and participating in criminal gang activity. Prosecutors alleged he was involved with the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips gang in his hometown of Savannah. He was released on a $100,000 bond.
In December 2023, the FBI arrested Quando Rondo in a separate federal drug investigation. Per WJCL, he was accused of one count in a 14-count indictment and held at a federal facility in Brunswick.
The news agency, citing the 20-page document, stated co-conspirators Donald "Lil D" Davis, Ty'sean "Stro" Davis, and a man who goes by "Hollywood" faced charges ranging from drug conspiracy, drug distribution, weapons, and robbery charges.
At the time, WJCL reported that Rondo's attorney, Kimberly Copeland, entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf, and he faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted. U.S. Attorney Jill E. Steinberg filed documentation in June at the United States District Court, Southern District of Georgia, stating that both parties reached a plea agreement.
It remains unclear how Quando Rondo's federal case will impact the one by the state of Georgia, where he faces charges of two counts of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s controlled substances law, one count of illegal use of a cell phone to facilitate a drug deal, and one count of participating in criminal activity affiliated with a street gang.
Quando Rondo hails from Savannah, Georgia. As a teenager, he joined the Savannah subset of the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips and spent time in juvenile detention centers. In 2017, after spending months in a county, he decided to pursue music full-time.
He rose to fame, going viral on YouTube and sharing songs like I Remember (written while he was incarcerated), Motivation, and Paradise. He is best known for his songs ABG, Imperfect Flower, and Scarred from Love.
The rapper is currently out on bail until his sentencing, which is scheduled for December 12.
