Chino XL's Father's Day was included in the soundtrack of his album
Also known as Derek Keith Barbosa, he had four albums in his credits and the final one was Ricanstruction: The Black Rosary, which came out in 2012. Although it had 35 songs on the soundtrack, Father's Day was the one single that was very personal to Chino.
The lyrics of the single addressed the time when his daughter was born at the hospital and the things he could feel before the same. A portion of the song also states:
"Here comes a nurse, not knowing that we should fear the worst / See the doctor's mouth moving, couldn't even hear the words / This isn't happening to you, I'm like Superman / And I could protect you from anything, I was really scared (Serious) / I realized what I heard, but not prepared for the sentence that the doctor said, "Your daughter has cancer.""
In an interview with HipHopDX in 2012, Chino XL addressed how he prepared the track, saying that the song was necessary to him. He spoke up on his daughter's cancer diagnosis when she was 10 months old, saying that it was not easy for him to put everything together. He continued:
"I tried to get past, there were ways I just tried to get past how I felt about it myself and know that it was a piece of technology that needed to get out there, a piece of emotion that somebody really needed and when you talk about things like cancer and sickness and death, as crazy as it might sound, you feel like you're all alone going through it."
Chino XL said that he felt helpless when his daughter was battling cancer and making a song about the same could have hardly matched anything that happened in reality. He called the song's creation an emotional experience and added:
"So many people are dealing with it with themselves and it's such a courageous thing that they go through and such the support systems that families become that I wanted to share my little story with it and to show people that it affects everyone and it can affect anyone at anytime and I don't mind being a person that for all my invulnerabilities that we're all vulnerable to that."
Apart from his four studio albums, Chino XL even released two collaboration albums along with an EP titled Chino vs. Balt in 2020.
