Argentina police confirmed that Liam Payne was under the influence of a potent hallucinogenic drug at the time of his passing. The former One Direction singer passed away on October 16 after falling off of a Casa Sur, Buenos Aires, hotel balcony. The autopsy also revealed that the singer suffered from “polytrauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage,” leading to his immediate death.
Buenos Aires police exclusively told TMZ on October 18 that Liam Payne was using a dangerous substance known as “Cristal” at the time of his passing. The drug reportedly makes users aggressive as they experience “extreme highs and extreme lows,” as per TMZ.
The police also stated that this was likely the reason behind Liam Payne’s erratic behavior, which would have caused hallucinations, subsequently leading to him jumping off of the third-story balcony of his hotel room.
Photos of the Strip That Down singer’s room were also exclusively released through TMZ. In the chaotic scene, one could observe champagne bottles, a smashed television, and a mess of drug equipment, including powders and tinfoil.

Along with the aforementioned times, one could also see a Dove soap packet, an empty glass, and wax from a burning candle. Authorities also found traces of a white powder, which were later confirmed to be cocaine, as reported by Argentina’s largest newspaper, La Nacion.
Investigators also told the publication that they found “a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a cellphone.”
Some hotel guests also told a British news outlet that they witnessed Liam Payne’s last hours, including one telling the publication that they saw the musician smashing his laptop after getting infuriated about an email. The guest said:
“I went over, asked, ‘Are you okay?’ But he just kind of grunted. Then he said, ‘I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f**ked up,”
Another guest who has identified themselves as Michael Fleischmann also reportedly saw Payne argue with an unknown woman about money in the hotel lobby. Payne was allegedly telling the woman:
“I’ll give you $20,000 just because I can. I have $55 million, and I like to help people.”
Fleischmann added that the musician was “very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing, and seemed very energized.”
Right before his passing, the hotel manager placed an emergency call to police over Payne’s alarming behavior and needed assistance in managing him as he could be a risk to himself.
In the distressing call made to the police, the manager was heard saying:
“We have a guest who is high and drunk; when he is conscious, he is destroying his room and we need you to send someone, please. We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if his life is in danger.”
People magazine also reported that the British pop star was “kicked out” of the Palacio Duhau-Park Hyatt Buenos Aires hotel before moving to the Casa Sur hotel.
A source also told Page Six that the singer “was battling a very significant drug addiction, and his treatment, as those who knew him will attest, was not working.”
Liam Payne was 31 years old at the time of his passing and is survived by his seven-year-old son Bear, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
