Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy revealed Taylor Swift had sent him a handwritten letter through her brother Austin, during her Miami Eras Tour concert on Sunday, October 20. The 47-year-old shared images of the letter on the BFFs podcast’s official Instagram account.
Dave’s name was written on the envelope’s front side, with a sparkling star drawn on it. The December 13-born singer sealed the backside with her lucky number 13. Taylor wrote:
"I'm so happy to have you at the show tonight! I wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, and for having my back when a lot of people didn’t. I hope you have a blast tonight!!"
She signed the letter with a hand-drawn heart. The Dorothea songstress penned the message on her custom "From the Desk of Taylor Swift" notepad, with her custom sign "Songwriter/Feline enthusiast" printed on it.
After Taylor Swift announced her public endorsement of Kamala Harris in September, Dave Portnoy posted on X on September 11:
"As the king of the Swifties people are asking me what I think of her Kamala endorsement. I don't care at all."
He opined people are free to vote for their preferred candidates. Dave said an individual's voting decision would not change how he thinks of them, before concluding:
"I'm voting the other way but to each their own"
Dave Portnoy responds to a Taylor Swift fan who claimed he is not a "real swiftie"
Alongside sharing Taylor's handwritten letter with viewers, Dave Portnoy took to Instagram and X to address a viral video.
Dave said Swifties asked him for a review after he attended the second night of Taylor Swift’s Miami Eras Tour show on Sunday. The Barstool Sports owner called the experience "spectacular", adding it was an "amazing night".
He continued that even though he should be on cloud nine, a girl recently went viral over her rant that Dave was a "fake Swiftie" and "Swifties should hate this guy". He added a clip from the TikTok video, where the girl, who seemingly goes by the username @thatserynsworld, claimed:
"Dave Portnoy is NOT a real swiftie"
She hypothetically asked her viewers to consider why Taylor Nation allegedly never reached out to Dave, his outlet, or anything associated with him. The girl further claimed Taylor Nation never offered him any concert tickets and that the 47-year-old also never attended any of Taylor Swift's shows before.
@thatserynsworld called Dave Portnoy a "performative Swifty", accusing him of "latching on to the fact that Swifties will, will join into the podcast".
Ending the TikTok clip there, Dave continued with his statement, clarifying he was in the VIP section of the audience at Taylor's concert. He then held Taylor's letter in front of the camera for the viewers to see:
"I want to come on and talk about this letter that Austin Swift, her brother...hand-delivered to me in the VIP section from Taylor."
Dave seemingly mocked the TikTok user who claimed Taylor hated him and went on to read out the singer's note to him. He revealed meeting Taylor's mother Andrea at the show and sharing a warm embrace. Dave said Andrea appreciated him for supporting her daughter.
Dave further said he could ban the girl from attending Taylor’s concert in the future if he wanted to, adding:
"Not everyone agrees on every issue, politics, whatever it may be, world views — Swifties is about love and support and Taylor."
Dave called Taylor Swift's ability to deliver "flawless, perfect" performances for three and a half hours during her concerts "unbelievable", adding he would never get over it. He advised the girl from TikTok to fact-check her information before making such claims on social media.
