On Friday, March 31, Eminem returned to the music scene with the lead single Houdini from his The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe de Grâce) album. Although many were stunned by the track, which included Steve Miller Band’s 1982 Abracadabra melody, the internet was left in a frenzy after closely listening to the song’s lyrics. Netizens were gobsmacked by the musician naming Megan Thee Stallion in the song.

In his 12th studio album that featured Houdini, Eminem crooned:

“If I was to ever take a leave, it would be at spring to break a fever/ If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me/ Would I really have a shot at a feat? I don’t know but I’m glad to be, back like”

For the uninitiated, Eminem was referring to Megan Thee Stallion getting shot in the feat by Tory Lanez. Tory and Megan were embroiled in a sensationalized court trial that left the former sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

Many were impressed with the reference to the shooting, while Eminem called out Megan Thee Stallion. A few reactions to the same read:

“The line is clever a lil ngl,” one netizen stated.
“That bar was clever and funny, can’t hate the guy, can only appreciate,” another X user stated.
“I know Em not begging Meg for a feature, no way,” another person opined.

Internet users applauded Eminem for his word play. A few other tweets read:

“I guess Eminem is team Tory,” one netizen commented.
“Ok it’s a clever bar yes cool but why is it okay to keep making fun of the experience Megan went through. Even if you team Tory or Megan, everybody doing the same bars about her feet. Especially when it comes from male rappers. It’s giving cringy Em,” one netizen opined.
“Oh the girls are so mad already SHADY IS SO BACK LETS GOOOO,” one netizen stated.

Several others reacted positively to Eminem’s lyrics. Tweets read:

“Slim Shady coming back,” one person stated.
“Like I get it if Meg takes offense, but Em’s been doing this for nearly 25 years, she should kind of see this coming,” one platform user said.
“This is clever af, not gonna lie,” another netizen stated.

Everything to know about Eminem’s Houdini track

The rapper's latest drop began with his signature trope of enlisting his manager, Paul Rosenberg. In the song, one can hear the latter say that he’s his own after he has heard the track. The track then refers to his 2002 song Without Me with the lyrics, “Guess who’s back, back again/ Shady’s back, tell a friend.”

After mentioning Megan Thee Stallion, the musician also refers to RuPaul and calls his children “brats.”

The song’s music video includes guest appearances from Alchemist, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Pete Davidson, among others.

The singer has kept relatively silent when it comes to promoting the album. However, during the NFL draft, he announced that he would be releasing the album with a Detroit Murder Files crime show teaser. It appears as if the rapper was suggesting the demise of his alter-ego.

A few weeks ago, he also ran a fake obituary of Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press, signaling his final adieu to the alter ego.
