American alt-rock band New Radicals shared the covers of two tracks- Murder On The Dancefloor and Lost Stars more than two decades after disbanding. In an open letter on Billboard, addressed by Gregg Alexander to Doug Emhoff, the former wrote that the decision to release the songs after 25 years was made to voice their political inclinations and inspire people to vote.
Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris' spouse, reportedly met Danielle Brisebois and Gregg Alexander at the DNC 2024. Doug has been using the 1998 track You Get What You Give as his walk-on song, since 2020. In the letter, Alexander further mentioned that this gesture of Doug had been "touching."
New Radicals lead vocalist Alexander told Variety,
"Dani and I hangin' at the DNC with the Emhoffs — and watching him dance on and off the stage while ‘You Get What You Give’ blasted around the world when Doug addressed America takes the cake!"
The letter revealed that the now-disbanded band received a personal invitation to play the 1998 song at the event this year. It was also reportedly played in January 2021, for Joe Biden's inauguration. In the open letter, Alexander urged all the artists to come forward and "save democracy."

As mentioned, Greg Alexander sent an open letter addressing it to Dough Emhoff, through Billboard. While suggesting everybody votes to save democracy, Alexander also made an interesting announcement about his former band, New Radicals.
According to the letter, the band was to drop a cover of Murder On The Dancefloor, originally sung by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The release of another cover of Adam Levine's Lost Stars was also announced. In the letter, the vocalist described these tracks as "musical gifts" dedicated to Doug Emhoff.
Alexander even disclosed that Murder On The Dancefloor was originally supposed to be their debut single, however, it became Bextor's debut track. The singer described Doug and Kamala Harris as the "true new radicals" He then mentioned the band's association with drug companies, and said,
"We’d never morally support any type of industry that might contribute to an opioid epidemic that has already killed a million Americans."
Alexander explained he was glad that several New Radicals music had been inspiring people even today. He additionally mentioned,
"Democracy is at stake, not just in the USA but also in much of the world watching closely..."
He concluded the open letter writing,
"To any DJs or TikTokers out there around the world, always feel free to play and use these songs to support and celebrate women’s, minority and LGBTQ+ rights and the spirit of freedom thriving and surviving around the globe!"
In the letter, Alexander wrote it was necessary to save democracy for future generations, and endorsed Kamala Harris.
