Curtis James Jackson III, a.k.a. 50 Cent, responded to Hurricane Chris after the latter accused him of not hiring any local talent at his Humor & Harmony Festival in Shreveport, Louisiana. On August 18, 2024, the A Bay Bay artist took to his Instagram (since deleted post) to criticize Fif (50 Cent) in a video with a lengthy caption, stating:
"None of the people around you know what the city needs, not even the fake non-profits, but that's another story. We love you, but you have been led wrong by people with no community outreach except downtown. Your pint man can't name the neighborhoods in my city. I know you're smart, bro. Everybody's using you."
Chris accused 50 Cent's team of not understating the Shreveport community and its needs and using the city for their own gain. In his video, Hurricane brought up the festival, in which he claimed the In Da Club rapper did not get any local legends like Boosie Badazz or Webbie while profiting from the festival.
In an X post (August 19), 50 Cent called out Chris, writing:
Hurricane Flex boy ya sh*t is wack, the f*ck you think you @FredoBang ya sh*t gets no play in my ride. LOL."
"We don’t need more money invested into the police" — Hurrican Chris criticizes 50 Cent
In his tirade, Hurricane Chris remarked that instead of paying local artists and the money going into the community, 50 Cent chose to bankroll police with half a million dollars. He stated:
"He just showed you that by paying the police a half a million dollars, when we got young n*ggas out here starving. We got young n*ggas out here killing each other. That f*cking money could have gone to anything to help the youth, we don’t need more money invested into the police."
He elaborated that the music mogul and his team knew holding the festival in Louisiana would turn out cheaper, and they took advantage of that. He added that they didn't care about the locals.
Considering Louisiana is the fourth worst educated state in the U.S. with murders occurring almost daily in the city, Chris further noted that local youth were lost and Fif's team completely did not address the issues. He added:
"We don't need more money in the police; we need money invested into the community. We need people who know the community and who are willing to get their feet dirty to make a difference with their influence."
Per All HipHop, a Shreveport city attorney confirmed that 50 Cent's team will be paying the city's police department almost $500,000 to cover the cost of security at the festival.
It is to be noted that the Humor & Harmony Festival was held over four days beginning August 8. It ended without any reports of violent crimes. Per the publication, the Shreveport Police Department teamed up with various local agencies to keep peace at the event. 50 Cent also had his own security team aiding the agencies.
Fredo Bang, a Louisiana native, responded to Hurricane Chri's claims and argued:
"Hurricane, if he didn't put no Louisiana artists, Louisiana legends, who the f*ck I am then?"
To be noted, in addition to Fredo Bang, other Lousiana rappers like Master P, Big Fella Zil, and Flamefari performed at the festival.
In a statement shared with KSLA, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux praised Fif for paying the costs incurred for security at the festival. He added that the gesture was a testament to his "pledge to help revitalize the Red River District of Downtown Shreveport in a fun, and most importantly, safe, way."
Hurricane Chris has since deleted the Instagram post.
