"What happened to the album though?" — Internet reacts to Selena Gomez saying she has no plans to release new music soon

Fans reacted online after Selena Gomez announced that she won't release new music anytime soon. In a recent interview with Marc Malkin during the Los Angeles premiere of her film Emilia Perez, she discussed her musical and acting goals.

Emilia Perez, written and directed by Jacques Audiard, is a Spanish musical that won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Gomez, along with co-stars Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofia Gascon, received the collective best actress award for their performances in the film.

During the interview, Selena Gomez revealed that she didn't have any plans for her musical career in the near future.

"I currently don’t have anything, but I will say music is going to always be a part of me. So I don’t think any movements are happening right now, but it will always be in my life," commented the songstress.

Fans were quick to hop on to X to share their thoughts. Many inquired about the unreleased album which she talked about in a March 2024 interview with Rolling Stone while shooting for Emilia Perez.

"What happened to the album though?" questioned a fan on X.

"She's been talking about sg3 since 2021. She promised a lot of time, she hinted that the song after single soon would be the lead single of the new era… damn, she had a plan! She's not obligated to do anything, but the least she could do was release what she has and that's it!" opined another.

Some fans, meanwhile, opined that Selena Gomez had given up on her musical career because of a lack of support from fans.

"Honestly I don’t blame her. Most of you all hate on anything she releases. She probably feels burnt out," tweeted a user.

"It’s cause we failed her when she released Love On :/ it was such a cute song," agreed another.

"Music isn't her passion like acting is and I love that for her," commented one netizen.

Selena Gomez alluded to releasing a full album during her March 2024 interview with Rolling Stone after the songstress dropped the singles Single Soon and Love On. During the interview, she explained that the songs would be a part of the full album.

“I guess it’s safe to say that ‘Single Soon’ and ‘Love On’ might not be really reflective of the project that I’m working on. They are in spirit, but I’m excited to explore more styles of music, and I think people will hopefully be surprised by the contrast. I like releasing songs that I love and I care about. I just released them into the world and later comes the full album,” she teased.

Talking about the release date of her new album, Gomez explained that she wasn't sure of it. However, she hoped that it would be out in 2024. She further added that her new music came "from a place of confidence" that reflected the "joy and curiosity" in her heart at that time.

However, it seems like Gomez' focus is currently on her acting and other creative ventures for film and television. After her latest interview, it might be safe to say that we won't see Selena Gomez's new album dropping in 2022.
