Rapper Azealia Banks called out a hotel in Birmingham for allegedly lacking hygiene. On Thursday, September 26, 2024, she shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which she revealed that she was staying at Hotel du Vin, and didn't have a great experience there.
In the first tweet, she wrote:
"The city officials in birmingham, UK, need to do something about the fish market at the bullring market. Its giving putrid pathogen Wuhan wet market tease and just being in there I caught some sh*t..."
A few netizens then asked her why she decided to stay near the Bullring market, to which she said that when she looked for the best hotel in Birmingham, she was suggested Hotel du Vin. In another tweet, she wrote:
"it was giving dust on the headboards and refilled Voss water bottles from the tap. It was giving jail break the handsoap teas."
Netizens also told her that she shouldn't have expected anything different from a fish market. To this, the rapper replied through another tweet where she wrote that she was looking for a beauty supply shop when she came across the fish market.
Reportedly the fish market has been there since the 1800s, and one can find different varieties of traditional and exotic fish there, along with vegetables and fruits.
Azealia Banks even claimed that the hotel had misleading photos when she booked them. After all the allegations, Hotel du Vin responded through a statement given to Birmingham Live on Friday, September 27. They stated:
"Hotel du Vin is committed to upholding the highest standards of hygiene across all aspects of our operations."
They further mentioned that they take feedback quite seriously to ensure a cleaner and more comfortable stay for the customers.
Azealia Banks was previously suspended from X, formerly known as Twitter for offensive remarks
Azealia Banks is known for expressing strong opinions on several matters. This, however, didn't always work well for her and led to a suspension from the X platform. This happened in 2016 when she shared some homophobic comments about singer Zayn Malik.
The Born & Bred music festival also dropped her due to her comments about Malik. The rapper later took to Instagram to apologize to Zayn. She then wrote (now deleted):
"Dear Zayn, There are no words that can fully express how sorry I am. Recent events have taught me the importance of taking accountability for ones actions. I want and need to say I am sorry, I was wrong..."
Apart from her recent complaints about her stay in Birmingham, notably, she was in the UK to conclude her first tour after several years. She performed in several venues including Birmingham, Bristol, and Brixton in September.
