What happened to D Smoke's mother? Rapper announces the death of Jackie Gouché Farris on Instagram

On August 11, 2024, D Smoke took to Instagram to announce the death of his mother, Jackie Gouché Farris, after complications following her car accident on March 31, 2024. The rapper posted a picture of him and his two brothers, SiR and Davion Farris, with their mother on Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt tribute.

"Today, at 9:19am our beautiful mother passed due to complications related to a car accident that took place on March 31st 2024, Easter," D Smoke wrote.
"As we process the immense heartache of loss, we’re careful to give thanks for having lived so close to one of the greatest souls to walk the face of this earth. She was our mother, music teacher, mentor in the home role model, biggest fan and friend," he added.

D Smoke thanked everyone who sent prayers and well wishes to the family during their trying times and asked everyone to respect his family's privacy.


D Smoke said his mother had to undergo several surgeries following her accident

Rapper D Smoke posted about his mother's accident on April 3, 2024, attaching a picture of the car she was in. In the post, he revealed she was on her way to church on Easter day when she was involved in the accident.

She bore the brunt of the injuries as the passenger side was crushed and underwent surgery to stop internal bleeding. The rapper added she had another surgery on her L2 vertebrae to "remove pressure from her spine."

"The second slide is the car my mother was in when it crashed the morning of Easter on her way to church. She was on the passenger side and got the worst of it. She’s since had 1 successful surgery to stop the internal bleeding. Tomorrow she will undergo surgery on her L2 vertebrae to remove pressure from her spine," D Smoke wrote.

He said his mother remained in good spirits despite her injuries and was "cracking jokes and trying to dance to music." He also asked people to keep her and his family in their prayers.

Following Jackie Gouché Farris' death, her son SiR, who is also a musician, posted a tweet reminding people never to take their time with loved ones for granted.


Jackie Gouché Farris was a backup singer and author

Jackie Gouché Farris was a backup singer for renowned artists like Tina Turner, Elton John, Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones, among others. In addition to her music career, she has authored three books.

According to her website, she detailed her life in her autobiographical How Would I Know, talked about praise and worship in True Worshippers, and wrote about raising her three sons in Inglewood, California, in Raising Kings.

Her three sons inherited their musical abilities from their mother. D Smoke, whose birth name is Daniel Anthony Farris, is a former teacher turned rapper who won Netflix's hip-hop competition Rhythm & Flow in 2019. He was nominated for Best Rap Album and Best New Artist at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards for his debut album, Black Habits.

SiR, whose real name is Sir Darryl Farris, signed with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2017. He has four studio albums and two EPs to his credit as of 2024. Davion Farris, the youngest of the three, is a GRAMMY Award-winning R&B singer/songwriter who has penned songs for artists like Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz.
