EST Gee's manager, EST Big Beach, real name Devontae Beach, was fatally shot after the rapper's concert in Louisville, Kentucky. Local law enforcement found Beach shot in his car on Sunday, July 21, 2024, near the Louisville Slugger Museum. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.
Beach was in town for the EST Gee & Friends Summer Jam concert at the KFC Yum Center, which featured rap artists including Lil Baby, Future, and 42 Dugg.
Per Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) spokesperson Aaron Ellis, their Homicide Unit has opened an investigation, adding that they do not have any suspects in custody.
LMPD feared potential violence ahead of EST Gee's concert and had placed additional units in the area
An LMPD representative stated that before the performance, they were concerned about possible violence. They stated:
"We are aware of this event and the potential public safety risk involved. LMPD will be providing extra security measures to assist in maintaining the safest possible environment within our ability."
The statement continued:
"The goal of any police department is to protect the public. We have no tolerance for violence. As such, LMPD will immediately address any criminal activity of which it is made aware, and arrests will be made as needed."
At the time, law enforcement authorities suspected the Sky Dwella rapper's ties with the EST (Everubody Shine Together) gang would lead to a gang war.
The venue authorities were aware of the risk and had enhanced their security measures to ensure the safety of the concertgoers. LMPD personnel were also present at the venue. Social media posts by concertgoers show cops posted outside and K-9 units inside the building.
EST Gee is no stranger to violence. Back in 2019, he was shot five times after shooting a music video for his song Taught Different. He was hit in the stomach four times and once in the left eye. Following surgery, the rapper made a full recovery and retained most of his vision. At the time, he told Rolling Stone magazine:
"Regular n*ggas is targeted every. Regular n*ggas get robbed for their jewelry every day. That sh*t don’t be on Instagram. Is it still sad? The sh*t ain’t sad, it’s only sad when it’s a rapper."
In 2021, the FBI arrested several people associated with the EST in a massive drug trafficking bust. While the rapper was not arrested, his previous manager, Eric Mosley was.
EST Gee or his spokesperson have not publicly commented on the shooting.
