Ken Carson's concert at the Fillmore Miami Beach took an unexpected turn when a series of clashes between fans and the security team disrupted the event. On July 9, 2024, American rapper and record producer Carson was set to perform at Jackie Gleason Theater for his Chaos Tour 2024.
However, eventgoers did not cooperate with the management, resulting in Live Nation, who managed and promoted the show, reportedly threatening the audience to cancel the show. Things worsened when the lights went dark for the opening performer, 2hollis.
The seated crowd tried to rush to the pit area while pushing security staff away. To control the crowd crush, the Live Nation-employed staff immediately asked to stop the show even before 2hollis went to the stage.
Live Nation threatens cancellations after Ken Carson concert turmoil
On Wednesday, Ken Carson, a rising star in the rap scene, drew a large crowd of enthusiastic fans in the age bracket of 14 to 20 dressed in black attires. They came to witness Carson's live performance and calmly queued outside the venue in Miami's scorching heat till the doors opened.
According to the Miami New Times, the crowd was waiting for the doors to be opened. As soon as the staff opened the gates, they crowded in a queue extending hundreds of feet to buy merchants with prices between $50 and $100. Until then, things were relatively calmer, but the crowd reportedly did not realize they had to take the colorful wristband to enter the pit area.
Only a few hundred fans were given the bands, and the rest of the fans who wanted to avoid them were asked to find seats behind them. According to the publication, this method is Fillmore's standard crowd control practice.
The eventgoers generally prefer the pit area, allowing them to move and mosh rather than sit in a seated area. When 2hollis was asked to begin the show, the crowd in the seating area reportedly rushed to the pit, pushing security staff. As a result, Live Nation staff allegedly paused the show immediately.
According to the Miami New Times, a 26-minute argument occurred between security and fans who forcefully entered the pit area. At first, they refused to come out, but when the staff threatened to cancel the show, Ken Carson's fans slowly moved out.
The crowd was reportedly chanting for Ken Carson, and those sent back to the seated area stood up on the chairs. The management allegedly said they would have to pull the show off if they weren't seated. Things went smoother, and 2hollis performed for 20 minutes. After multiple aggressive warnings, Ken Carson was set to be on the stage, but the crowd started moshing and became aggressive. As a result, management paused the show again.
A few fans reportedly started fighting and blaming each other for the chaos in the show. After more than 25 minutes, Ken Carson came on the stage and asked the crowd not to rush to the stage, and then the show went on.
"They told me to tell you all to stop rushing the stage, whatever the f**k that means," Carson reportedly told the crowd.
Carson performed for 45 minutes, setting the stage on fire with popular hits such as Jennifer's Body, Yale, and Rock and Roll. When Carson announced that he would perform his last song of the evening, Fighting My Demons, many from the crowd rushed to the pit, screaming the song's chorus. Then the lights turned on, and the staff asked the crowd to leave.
