Travis Scott and Killer Mike's fans are going at each other since the time that Mike's Run The Jewels won the Grammys instead of Scott's UTOPIA, for the best rap album. Several Travis Scott fans have been trolling Mike on social media, with some claiming that they couldn't even remember a song that he sang.
For a considerable time, the artists did not reveal what they felt about each other, in public. Killer Mike had, however, dissed Scott in his track Scientists & Engineers. In a recent interview with Complex, published on August 16, 2024, Mike spoke about his take on Scott's fans and all the trolling he had faced.
Moreover, the managers of Mike and Scott have reportedly embroiled in a war of words recently, following the release Mike's track, Still Talk’n That Sh*t, from his latest album. The track, which disses Mike's haters, has annoyed Scott's manager David Stromberg. In the track, Mike raps,
“You gonna respect me like a motherf***ing Grammy winner/ Like I cooked your favorite rapper like a granny dinner.”
Scott's fans have levelled criticism at Mike for quite some time now. Mentioning Scott's fanbase, Mike said,
"As an artist, I deeply have reverence for Travis Scott, he’s amazing. I'm never going to think anybody deserves anything in front of me, especially when I put in my best, but a lot of his fans, they don't like Mike now. And I have to accept that, that's fine."
In the interview, Mike revealed that he had sufficient confidence to rap alongside anyone in the industry. The 49-year-old rapper further explained that his songs had the emotional element which was missing in Travis Scott's tracks. He added in the interview,
"I listen to Travis and I jam, but man, does the record hit you like shedding tears when she won't let you see your child... That's what my music does. It's there for you... So I'm there... to speak to the whole human being."
Explaining what happened between rappers Killer Mike and Travis Scott
As mentioned, the drama between the rapper's began after Killer Mike's album won the Grammy's and Scott's album UTOPIA didn't, angering Scott's fanbase. Following this, Mike had been trolled a lot on social media. The rapper, however, didn't seem to get affected and told Complex about the confidence he had in his abilities.
Recently, the managers of the two artists also got into a rift. The drama began with the release of Mike's latest album Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival Songs for Sinners and Saints, on August 2, 2024. A song from the album, Still Talk’n That Sh*t, primarily talked about Mike flexing his newly obtained fame. In the track, Killer Mike further referred to those who weren't much happy with his success and called them "jealous haters."
In the track, he rapped:
"I finally get it, all my haters, they was just jealous/ They wrote they papers, gave they speeches, no one gave a f*ck/ I walk in a room and smile and applause erupts..."
The lyrics, however, didn't sit right with Travis Scott's manager David Stromberg. Stromberg commented:
"Macklemore and Cardi B tour selling out Chuck E Cheese karaoke nights near u."
Chioke “Stretch” McCoy later responded again, through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the tweet, he wrote,
"Taking all fades with all managers for all our clients."
There has been no further escalation between the rappers as of now, and netizens await any further developments. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the same.
