Local Argentinian media outlets announced on October 16 that Liam Payne had passed away at the age of 31 in a hotel in Palermo, Buenos Aires. According to law enforcement reports obtained by La Nacion, the former One Direction singer was pronounced dead by emergency services who found him on a patio of the hotel Casa Sur.
As per the news outlet, police were called to the scene by the hotel manager who complained of an "aggressive" and inebriated individual under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officers believe that Liam Payne fell from the third floor of the hotel onto the courtyard.
The head of SAME (Buenos Aires emergency medical services) stated the singer was found with a base fracture on his skull after falling 10-14 meters (30-40 feet) when they answered an EMS call at 5:11 pm on October 16.

The 31-year-old British pop star is notable for being part of the boy band One Direction where he sang with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Nial Horan before they disbanded in 2016. Liam was in Argentina on Wednesday when emergency services were called to his hotel on the evening of October 16 around 5 pm local time.
Head of city emergency services Alberto Crescenti mentioned in a press conference that EMS found Liam Payne in the inner courtyard of the hotel with "serious injuries incompatible with life." After the police arrived at the scene, the ambulance staff declared Payne dead on the scene.
The case is currently under investigation by the local law enforcement with details still being worked out by the Buenos Aires City Police.
However, they suspect the trauma from falling from the third floor of the hotel was what caused Liam Payne's death. But a full autopsy report is still pending.
