Lil Yachty and Mitch exchanged heated words in the latest episode of their podcast A Safe Place. In the August 22 episode featuring special guest Key Glock, Yachty accused co-host music producer Mitch of not being productive in his past, alleging he helped his friend a lot due to his success as a rapper.
"Up until about maybe a year and a half ago, two years ago, you spent a lot of time trying to find your steps," Lil Yachty said.
Mitch agreed to it and the rapper further implied that Mitch owed his success to him since he helped Mitch get started. Yachty added that he never suggested Mitch get a job because he knew he would never get one without the rapper's help.
"No no no no no, imagine if you didn't have a friend who was already extremely successful to help you get on your feet. A lot of people don't have that, so what I'm saying is, what do you say, cos you didn't want to get a job. I never even suggested you get a job, cos I knew you wouldn't get a job," Yachty continued.
Mitch tried to defend himself as a silent Key Glock looked on without saying anything. But Lil Yachty interrupted the producer, saying he had no idea what Mitch would have done with his life if the rapper removed himself from the equation.
The clip, posted by X user @TLOZAY88, went viral on the social media platform with over 8.4 million views at the time of this article. Many accused Lil Yachty of disrespecting Mitch in front of a guest and a huge audience.
Lil Yachty responded to the backlash on Instagram Live
The rapper took to Instagram Live after the podcast episode to clarify the situation, addressing Mitch directly. He added the podcast existed because Mitch wanted to do it and Yachty wanted to provide his friend with a platform to showcase his wit and creativity.
"I'm going to give you a platform. I'm going to find someone to sponsor us, and imma give you a platform, we gonna make a podcast and imma show people how funny you are. Imma show people how crazy you are, imma show people, like, how cool you are. And it's going to give you a platform, you know what I'm saying," Lil Yachty said in the Instagram Live session.
Lil Yachty added he never wanted to do the podcast as he was a rapper raking in "millions of dollars" and did not need to interview other rappers. He also alleged he filled Mitch's pockets with money.
"I ain't want to do no motherf**king podcast n***a, Im a f**king rapper, n***a, I got millions of dollars. I don't need to talk to other rappers. What the f**k are we talking about. I did the podcast for Mitch. I put $400,000 in Mitch pocket..." the rapper continued.
Lil Yachty said he had privately confronted the producer about his lack of response to the backlash garnered by the viral podcast clip. The rapper alleged Mitch told him that he did not need to respond as things were always blown out of proportion on social media, so the rapper saw it prudent to address the viral clip himself.
Mitch responded to the viral podcast clip in a series of tweets
After Lil Yachty brought public attention to the situation via his Instagram Live session, Mitch posted a series of tweets providing context to the viral clip. On August 22, Mitch opened the conversation with the tweet, "Alright let’s clear some things up.."
In the follow-up tweets, he continued that the viral clip did not accurately portray his relationship with Lil Yachty, adding he had "nothing but respect and love" for the rapper.
"Please don’t let that clip misguide you it doesn’t represent me and yachty’s friendship at all we joke around pretty harsh sometimes too much fr sometimes but irl it’s nothing but respect and love i can’t even get on here and act like it’s not," Mitch wrote.
He said the clip was taken out of context when it circulated on social media, reiterating that he got to where he is today due to his talent. Mitch also clarified there was no shady history between him and Lil Yachty and that the rapper wasn't trying to take his achievement away from him.
In a final tweet about the situation, Mitch added the next podcast episode will be epic. It is unclear whether A Safe Place will continue at the time of writing this article.
