What happened to Mikkey Dee? Former Motörhead drummer posts photo with crutches after recent hospitalization

Former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee took to Instagram on Thursday, January 2, 2025, and opened up about his health update. Dee shared a photo of himself sitting, resting his legs on a chair, and holding crutches. He stated that he was diagnosed with a blood infection this holiday season and was admitted to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

In the caption, Dee wrote:

"I was admitted for three weeks but now I am home fighting this bastard bacteria... After several operations, I am now back home and the numbers are all going in the right direction. Still lots of recovery and rehab in front of me..."

Elsewhere in the post, the former drummer expressed his gratitude to the hospital and the doctors who treated him. He continued that this year is filled with a number of events, including 60 years of his rock band Scorpions. Mikkey Dee additionally wrote in the caption:

"So, the Stinger is out and I can't wait to see you all out there on the road and rock the hell out of you! I wish everybody a fantastic 2025 with good health and lots of Rock n' Roll."

Mikkey is best known for his involvement as a drummer with Motörhead from 1992 to 2015. In 2016, the musician joined Germany's hard rock band, Scorpions.


Mikkey Dee's health issues primarily began with a sprain, which eventually turned into something more severe

While Mikkey Dee gave his health updates on Instagram, he also spoke about them in a conversation with the same with the Swedish publication Aftonbladet. The article by the outlet, published on January 2, 2025, mentioned that the drummer's issue started with a simple sprain.

According to the drummer, the situation worsened over the weekend before Christmas. He additionally detailed the physical troubles he went through during the period. 61-year-old Mikkey mentioned:

"The ankle swelled up like hell, then it took on a weird shape and appearance and looked like an overcooked ham. I became very ill so I had to go by ambulance to Sahlgrenska and there they found that I had sky-high values, so I became priority one there."

According to the drummer, the next step was a series of three surgeries. He continued:

"They cut away what was dead and infected and badly infested. It was not a good journey I was on… Another day and I’d be playing drums with Lemmy in heaven."

Mikkey Dee's Motörhead bandmate Lemmy Kilmister, was one of the founders of the band in 1975. Lemmy was also the lead vocalist and bassist for the band. He passed away in December 2015 from prostate cancer compounded by cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, as per reports by TMZ dated January 2016.


The upcoming events of Scorpions drummer Mikkey Dee include his line-up at the Time to Rock Festival, scheduled to take place from July 4 to July 7, 2025, at Knislinge Folkets Park in Knislinge, Sweden.
