Paula Abdul canceled her upcoming Canadian tour due to injuries. The singer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram to release a statement on Wednesday, September 4, revealing that she recently sustained a few injuries.
The singer noted that although targeted injections allowed her temporary relief, it still was not enough to keep up with the demands of her Straight Up! To Canada tour.
Alongside her Canadian tour, Abdul's shows in Alaska and North Dakota were also canceled. One of her injuries even requires a "minor procedure" which could result in up to 6-8 weeks of recovery time. Paula Abdul apologized to her fans and mentioned that ticket refunds would be available at their point of purchase.
Paula Abdul canceled her Canadian tour due to recently sustained injuries
Paula Abdul was preparing to embark on her Straight Up! To Canada tour, which was scheduled for later this month. Tickets for the tour went live earlier in June. The singer was preparing to hit 21 cities in the country, starting from a performance at the Save on Foods Memorial Arena in Victoria, British Columbia on September 25.
The 62-year-old, former American Idol judge was supposed to wrap up her Canadian tour with a gig at Sydney, Nova Scotia's Centre 200 on October 26. Taylor Dayne and Tiffany were slated to join the singer on tour as her opening acts.
However, the singer announced on Wednesday that she was canceling her entire Canadian tour, due to injuries. Paula Abdul's statement read:
"It’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I need to share with you an update regarding some injuries I’ve recently sustained. In an effort to keep going, I’ve received targeted injections that will allow me temporary relief, but the demands of an entire tour is a different story."
After multiple consultations with her doctors, Abdul was advised to get a "minor procedure" done for one of her injuries. However, the recovery time for the procedure is set at "6-8 weeks", prohibiting her from proceeding with the Straight Up! To Canada tour.
Apart from her Canadian gigs, Abdul's injuries also led to the cancellation of her American gigs in Anchorage, Alaska (September 21), and Fargo, North Dakota (October 12). The singer wrote:
"I want to extend my deepest apologies to all my amazing fans in Canada and the US, you mean the world to me and this truly breaks my heart."
She added:
"I’ve been looking forward to the energy, love, and connection we always share when we’re together. I promise I’ll be back, stronger and better, dancing my heart out and performing for all of you very soon, to give you the show you deserve."
Paula Abdul announced that refunds for the tickets would be available at the point of purchase before once again thanking fans for their love, patience, and understanding.
On the other hand, Abdul has suffered some major injuries in the past. A car crash in 1992 and a plane crash the following year resulted in the singer getting 10 spinal surgeries and three metal plates installed on her neck.
During an August 2024 interview with the Daily Mail, Abdul opened up about the effect of her injuries on her eating habits. She said:
"I eat in a healthy way which incorporates a lot of elements from an alkaline diet because my body, just from injuries alone, carries a lot of acidity, so I try to keep the balance right so I can keep as much inflammation out of my body,'"
In other news, on Wednesday, September 4, the whole country was left shocked by the shooting at Georgia's Apalachee High School which left four dead and nine injured. Paula Abdul took to her Instagram stories on Wednesday to send prayers and strength to everyone in the community who was affected by the tragedy.
