The Cure's keyboardist, Roger O'Donnell, revealed that he was diagnosed with a "very rare and aggressive" lymphoma in September 2023 and subsequently underwent treatment.
In a series of posts on X on Sunday, September 1, O'Donnell opened up about his cancer diagnosis as part of Blood Cancer Awareness Month. He wrote:
"In September last year, I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. I had ignored the symptoms for a few months but finally went...and after surgery, the result of the biopsy was devastating."
The keyboardist further shared that he had completed 11 months of treatment after he was first diagnosed. Roger O'Donnell explained that he's fighting the disease "under some of the finest specialists in the world" and has also worked with "second opinions and advice" from the people who had developed the drugs he's been taking.
Meanwhile, his fans flooded the comments section with support for the musician, some praising his "courage" for sharing such sensitive information with them online. Plenty of them also shared their "best health" wishes for O'Donnell.

Roger O'Donnell reveals he's "fine" a year after lymphoma diagnosis
In his subsequent posts on X on Sunday after revealing his previous lymphoma diagnoses, Roger O'Donnell explained that he's feeling better after almost a year of treatment. He wrote:
"I'm fine and the prognosis is amazing... The mad axe murderer knocked on the door and we didn't answer."
The musician further revealed part of his treatment plan, sharing that the last phase of his treatment was radiotherapy. He added that it was "one of the first treatments developed against cancer."
Roger O'Donnell also shared his hopeful disposition with fans and others who may have experienced the same disease, saying that "cancer can be beaten." He explained that with an early diagnosis, people "stand a way better chance" at beating the disease.

As part of his Blood Cancer Awareness Month post, the musician also encouraged his fans on social media to "GET TESTED." He added that if anybody has the faintest idea that they may have cancer symptoms, they have to get it checked out by their doctor.
Roger O'Donnell also encouraged netizens to support anybody they know who is suffering from a disease. He added that based on his experience, talking to those who are ill is a big contribution, as "every single word helps."
The musician concluded his posts by giving special thanks to his "rockstar" doctors and others who helped him throughout his treatment, including the nurses and technicians, his friends, family, and "Mimi." He appreciated their support throughout the process, as he thinks that "sometimes it's harder to be on the other side of this."
