Singer Tionne Watkins or T-Boz found herself amidst internet scrutiny as netizens made fun of her health conditions after her band TLC canceled many of their shows. On August 28, the singer took to her Instagram and explained her medical condition, despite being private about her issues.
She also denied taking Ozempic, which is a diabetes and anti-obesity medication. The singer also clarified that her medical condition had nothing to do with sickle cell.
“People have died from what I went through. It had nothing to do with Sickle Cell. It had nothing to with constipation. No, I’m not on Ozempic. Everybody and every celeb ain’t on Ozempic. The ignorance is disheartening to me,” T-Boz said.
T-Boz mentioned that 24 years ago she had an abdominal surgery because of which scar tissue rubbed against her intestines creating a blockage. The problem had nothing to do with what she ate or the insides of her intestines. It was the exterior part that was affected and that required the singer to be hospitalized.
She said that people had died because of this medical condition as she explained the amount of pain it caused to her. The singer also appeared in a video clip shared by the Portia TV show, the full conversation of which will be released soon. During the discussion, she said the condition could happen to anybody who had abdominal surgery. The host was seen thanking her for setting the record straight.
T-Boz experienced severe nausea due to which she was hospitalized
The singer is the lead vocalist of the American girl group TLC. On August 24, the group released a statement on their Instagram story stating they had to cancel the Syracruse and Foxwoods shows. TLC had previously performed in Toledo, Ohio, on August 22. However, the decision to cancel their shows was taken after T-Boz fell ill upon arriving in Syracuse.
“However, shortly after arriving in Syracuse, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins experienced sudden and severe nausea, vomiting, and intense abdominal cramps. She was immediately seen by a doctor and subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation”, the statement read.
The post continued,
“Last evening, Tionne was diagnosed with a severe abdominal blockage, necessitating the cancellation of both the Syracuse and Foxwoods performances. She remains in the hospital under medical supervision but is expected to be released tomorrow. The doctor verified that this was not food poisoning, but an abdominal blockage.”
The band further promised to reschedule the canceled shows. Netizens reacted to the statement with various speculations, like ozempic slowing down digestion, cramps, constipation, etc. However, others were supportive and wished for a speedy recovery. X users with sickle cell conditions empathized with the singer and hoped she would heal sooner.
In May 2024, the group canceled four shows during their Canada tour after T-Boz got the flu. This resulted in the loss of her voice due to which she was medically advised against performing. Other band members also fell ill during that time.
