Sean 'Diddy' Combs has created headlines ever since he was arrested on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution on September 16, 2024. As per the latest updates, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, and a federal judge in New York dismissed his bail following his appearance at the court on September 17.
The rapper is currently being held at the Brooklyn-based Metropolitan Detention Center, as per Forbes. According to People, his lawyers proposed a $50 million bail package that included a $50,000 bond for Combs.
Sean's attorney, Marc Agnifilo, spoke to the reporters outside the court, saying he would do everything for the artist's release from prison. He said that he is expecting to fight a "long battle" to free Sean and has full faith in his legal team for the same.
Diddy's son Christian was also present during the trial, but his family refused to speak to anyone after the judge's verdict. The artist was seen in a black shirt and gray sweatpants. Notably, Sean was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents at a hotel in Manhattan.
Federal prosecutors addressed the reasons for rejecting Diddy's bail during the trial
Diddy's recent arrest was associated with the raids conducted at his houses in Miami and Los Angeles in March this year. Page Six acquired a grand jury indictment a day after the artist's arrest, which revealed a lot of shocking details, including the discovery of 1,000 bottles of lubricant alongside three AR-15s.
A lawsuit was already filed against Sean on September 10, 2024, by singer Dawn Richard. The latter was a member of the girl group Danity Kane, which released three albums under Sean's Bad Boy Records.
Richard reportedly claimed in the lawsuit that she was a witness to the assault incident involving Cassie Ventura. The footage of the incident was obtained by CNN in May 2024, leading to heavy criticism of Sean on different platforms. The lawsuit claimed that Richard always encouraged Ventura to leave Combs.
"Each time, Mr. Combs learned of her efforts to help Ms. Ventura and became enraged, threatening Ms. Richard's life with statements such as 'you want to die today,' 'I make n***as go missing' and 'I end people,'" the lawsuit claimed.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors stated in the recent trial that Diddy's bail should be rejected since the victims of sex trafficking were scared of him. Assistant US Attorney Emily Johnson confirmed the same, adding that he got in touch with a victim to confess that she willingly got involved in sexual activities.
Federal prosecutors specifically referred to the assault footage, saying that it was enough to prove that he was a risk to everyone if released. The prosecutors also claimed that he previously attempted to avoid investigations in other cases.
Grand jury indictment reveals details about the items found during Diddy's house raid
Following the 54-year-old's recent arrest, a grand jury indictment obtained by Page Six claimed that Homeland Security discovered evidence that was linked to alleged sex events known as 'Freak Off.' The documents mentioned that events took place inside hotel rooms, and they were full of items such as drugs, baby oil, lubricant, and more.
Diddy's staff members were told to clean the rooms after the events during which Sean allegedly hit the victims and dragged them by their hair. The indictment stated that the victims were abused physically, verbally, and emotionally.
The indictment also stated that Diddy tried to have control over the victims through different methods, including making promises of career opportunities, monitoring their movements, and supplying controlled substances.
Meanwhile, Sean's attorney said in a statement to Page Six on September 17, 2024, that his client was not a criminal. Marc also called Diddy a "music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist."
The New York City native has been involved in many legal problems over the years and was also arrested in 2021 on charges of aggravated assault.
