What did Lil Baby do before he became famous? Rapper says he is buying every shop he hustled in front of

American rapper Lil Baby has gotten into a new hobby recently. He has been buying those shops in front of which he used to hustle in his early days. Videos of him showing the renovation work of these stores have gone viral on the internet. As he showed the ongoing construction work in one of the stores, the rapper said,

“I’m buying every store I trapped in front of. Ain’t nothing wrong with buying chains and watches and sh**, I got a lot of that stuff.”

Before he became famous, Lil Baby used to sell weed in front of these stores. In an interview piece with Rolling Stone published in 2020, the rapper said he was already making real money by the time he turned 16. He said,

“Needed the money, more than anything. I knew all the drug dealers around my neighborhood. When I was like 10, 11, I was hanging out with a dude who was like 17. He was getting money to buy a car, having his own little spot. So he was a lot of my motivation, too.”

His clientele included the QC roster, Migos, and Rich the Kid. In October 2023, he was seen with rapper 2 Chainz in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Lil Baby said that although they have been friends for more than a decade, 2 Chainz used to be his weed dealer.

Lil Baby went to prison before making a career in the music industry

The rapper did not finish high school. When he was 17, he used to pay $2000 a month for two of his apartments. However, he landed in some legal trouble and went to prison. His journey in the industry began in 2017 with the release of his first mixtape, Perfect Timing, in April 2017.

In 2021, Lil Baby was detained by French cops on account of possession of marijuana. He was in Paris with basketball player James Harden for the Paris Fashion Week. His car was searched on Avenue Montaigne because the vehicle smelled of marijuana.

On August 13, Architectural Digest released a video of the rapper's home tour. He said that while growing up, he aspired to have ‘crazy’ houses. The interior of his house was designed by Annysa LaMantia. While giving a tour of his bathroom, the rapper said,

“The shower is where I can get a peace of mind, get my thoughts together, thinking about how I’m gonna knock all this money off, you know? So I can easily spend a hour in the shower.”

Lil Baby’s debut studio album, Harder Than Ever, came out in 2018.
