Entertainment news outlet and X page RapTV revealed on October 25 that rapper Lil Durk was arrested. According to a screenshot of the musician’s arrest report, he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals on a murder for hire charge. It remains uncertain whether he has been bailed out as of the time of this article.

Popular livestreamer DJ Akademiks shared on social media that Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Derrick Banks, was held at the Broward County Correctional Facility before being extradited to California to face federal charges. He further said:

“His Charge is ‘MURDER FOR HIRE’ for the death of Quano Rondo cousin ‘LUL PAB.’”

A mugshot of Lil Durk was also made public at the time of this writing.

For those uninitiated, a person can be charged with murder for hire if they offer money or other benefits in exchange for someone’s death. This is often referred to as conspiring to commit murder, contract killing, or solicitation of murder. Criminals choose this route if they are unable to carry out the act themselves, wish to distance themselves from the crime, or want to create an alibi for their whereabouts during the murder.

According to the Defend Your Case website, if convicted, individuals charged with murder for hire can face a life sentence if the victim is killed. If the victim is injured but not killed, the maximum sentence can be up to 20 years. The website also states:

“If the plot exists, but the victim is not injured or killed, the potential sentence is about ten years.”

Five others arrested alongside Lil Durk on murder for hire charges

WGN9 reported that five others, along with the rapper, were arrested for targeting rapper Quando Rondo, who is suspected of being involved in the murder of Chicago-based rapper King Von in 2020 in Atlanta.

Those arrested include Kavon London Grant, Keith Jones, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. Prosecutors have alleged that the five have ties to the Only the Family (OTF) hip-hop group, originally formed by Lil Durk back in 2010.

Audacy reported that although Rondo was the target of the defendants, his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, tragically lost his life. As per DJ Akademiks’ X post, Lul Pab was likely the victim who died.

The five individuals, aside from Durk, are also facing other charges, including murder for hire resulting in death and the carrying and discharge of firearms, including a machine gun, in the furtherance of a crime of violence that resulted in death.

The federal indictment against the suspects alleged that the OTF members used a credit card to purchase tickets to Chicago in search of Rando on August 18, 2022. They then managed to procure firearms, which were subsequently used to attempt to kill Rando, but they ended up fatally shooting Lul Pab instead.
