The Rich Men North of Richmond singer Oliver Anthony recently criticized the entire Hollywood music industry on YouTube on December 6. The singer-songwriter began the video, titled What I’ve Learned from the Music Industry So Far, by saying that he had "a lot to get off my chest" before condemning some artists and the modern country music scene.

In the 15-minute video, Oliver Anthony took a jab at everything allegedly wrong with popular music. Additionally, he then accused one of the singers of using autotune and replaying tunes during a performance, calling the industry a "joke."

In the same clip, he claimed:

“A lot of these mainstream acts…everybody runs backing tracks. Like I’ll never forget, I won’t say who the act is, but I think it was at South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach one, the band who played after us, that dude had six autotune modulators on a pedal board on stage, just to help him with vocal pitch live.”

He continued:

“And they had backing tracks running, drum loops running. It’s like, for somebody to pay hundreds of dollars to go listen to like a fake performance…nobody talks about that stuff.”

However, as per Holler Country’s December 9 report, even though he never mentioned the artist's name, people speculated that he was allegedly pointing fingers at his fellow singer, Parker McCollum.

The claim was further cemented as Oliver Anthony recently performed at the Myrtle Beach Carolina Country Music Fest on Thursday, December 5, where Parker McCollum took the stage after him.

Oliver Anthony condemned the country music industry when he announced his intention to switch from music to ministry. In the YouTube video, he criticised an alleged heartless industry that reportedly fakes everything for financial gain, from background tracks to autotune.

Additionally, he also denounced the usage of autotune and backing tracks at the live performances.

He then claimed to have witnessed an unnamed singer, who performed after him at the Myrtle Beach, employ six autotune modulators to help his live vocal pitch.

Oliver Anthony continued by calling this a "fake performance" and expressing his shock at fans shelling out hundreds of dollars for such a presentation. However, even though he never named the singer, Parker McCollum saw the tape and fired back at him.

On Instagram on December 9, McCollum addressed the escalating rumours of him allegedly using autotunes, calling Oliver Anthony's assertions "100% fabricated lies." He further said:

“Hey guys, per the Oliver Anthony interview or whatever it was claiming that he saw drum loop modular or whatever he called it, I don’t even know what that is…100% fabricated lie.”

He continued:

"Never ever, ever, ever one time have I ever used autotune or a drum loop or anything fake of any kind on stage. Me and my guys are ripping it the real deal every single night. There has never been any single part of our show, not one note, that was not live, raw, and in the moment. 100% fabricated story. That is 100% a lie.”

He concluded:

“That will never change. We will always be out there swinging it as a real band, trying to do our best to respect country music. So, that’s all I’ve got to say on it, and that’s where it needs to end.”

McCollum then continued to defend himself, claiming that Anthony had been misinformed or seen something that wasn't real. On the other hand, McCollum was not the only artist Anthony criticised during the video.

In the same video, he talked about Beyonce's first country album, COWBOY CARTER, and alleged that it made him want to "throw up.”

He also referred to Beyonce's cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene, and said:

“It represents how degenerative our society has become that a song like a Beyoncé version of ‘Jolene’ can come out and anybody actually listen to it and think it’s not just complete trash.”

Meanwhile, Oliver Anthony has not yet clarified if he was referring to Parker McCollum in the clip.
