New details surrounding the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne have emerged. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 from Argentina revealed the cause of death in a press release on October 17. This comes after the musician fell from his third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.
The organization shared that the singer, who was 31 years old at the time of his passing, died from “polytrauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage.”
As per the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, polytrauma occurs when a person sustains injuries to multiple body parts, subsequently resulting in several organ systems getting affected as well.
TODAY.com revealed that whenever someone dies from polytrauma, it may be immediately or moments later. When it is immediate, it is usually through a brain injury and severe blood loss.
The circumstances surrounding the death of the Strip That Down singer continue to be investigated. Prosecutors currently believe that Liam Payne was alone in his hotel room when he took the fall.

The autopsy reportedly took place on the day of his passing after his body was transported into a morgue. Forensic experts found:
"25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height.”
Fox News also shared that forensic experts found:
“Craniocerebral lesions were adequate enough to cause death, while internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen and limbs, they contributed to the mechanism of death.”
Details on whether he had alcohol and drugs in his system were yet to be shared with the public. The forensic report read:
“At this point, analysis of stomach contents, alcohol and blood toxins, vitreous humor, bile, nasal swab and urine was required to determine alcohols and toxins.”
911 call details surrounding Liam Payne’s death were released to the public
On the afternoon of Liam Payne’s passing, Argentina police responded to a 911 call from the hotel he was staying at. A staff member alleged that a guest was destroying objects in their bedroom and was likely under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The call was allegedly placed just moments before Liam Payne had passed away. The musician was not referred to by name in the 911 call. The employee was heard telling the police:
“Well, when he is conscious he breaks ... the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please.”
The worker also told the police that the guest was likely a risk to himself. The caller said:
“And we need someone to be sent to us urgently, because well, I don’t know if he is at risk. The guest is in a room that has a balcony and, well, we are a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening”
The singer was holidaying in the country alongside his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The duo attended fellow One Direction bandmate Niall Horan’s Movistar Arena concert. Cassidy departed the country on October 14, with Payne checking into the aforementioned hotel.
