What is Remy Ma's real name? Rapper appears to use her maiden name amid reports of splitting from Papoose

Remy Ma's latest single, Outta Control, is getting a lot of attention on different platforms considering that it marks her collaboration with Cool & Dre and Fat Joe. However, she used her maiden name Remy Kioni Smith in the song, leading to rumors that the rapper has possibly separated from her husband Papoose.

Remy Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Kioni Mackie, often uses Remy Mackie for her projects. The name comes from her husband, Papoose, whose real name is Shamele Mackie. Papoose is also a rapper known for singles such as Party Out In Brooklyn and New York State of Mind.

While Remy Ma hasn't confirmed anything, similar rumors went viral last year. These reports surfaced after Papoose and Eazy The Block Captain allegedly disputed during a rap event, Chrome 23, where Eazy got very close to Remy.

The Righteous Kill star later clarified through X that the dispute rumors were untrue. She also stated

"I'd like to apologize to everyone that was disappointed tonight because we couldn't get 3 full rounds from the opponents… I tried…"

The split reports went viral for another time in May this year when she was seen with a rapper named Bad Newz. The latter even posted a photo on his Instagram page at the time, revealing that the picture was clicked at the Chrome 23 event.

On the other hand, netizens have posted their reactions in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk's Instagram post after Remy Ma used her maiden name in the new single. One of them praised that the breakup happened "quietly" and another user wrote that Papoose was possibly the reason behind the reported split.

Remy Ma and Papoose have been together for more than 10 years

The couple's relationship dates back to 2004 when they met each other through a mutual friend and slowly started going out.

However, Remy Ma soon got involved in a legal issue in 2008 where she was sentenced to eight years. The charges were linked to a shooting incident that happened the previous year. Remy and Papoose got engaged when the former was still in prison and following her release, the duo started appearing on Love & Hip Hop: New York.

In an interview with Billboard in 2015, Remy shared that the producers of the show were attempting to cast them in the show for a long time. She continued by saying that the makers wanted to capture the "dynamic" of Papoose coming to visit her in prison. She added

"It sounded like it would've been cool footage but I really was going through a traumatic situation – I was in prison, I had an eight-year sentence and was like, 'I don't care about no reality TV. I don't care about nothing. I just want to get out.'"

Kioni Mackie became the mother of her first child with Papoose in 2018. She even revealed the same through Instagram, writing that she had a daughter. Notably, Remy had a miscarriage in 2017.

Back in 2021, Remy Ma opened up on how Papoose supported her when she was in prison as she appeared in an episode of the show, Uncensored. She said that she was "mad" at everything that happened to her and continued:

"I was mad at God. I was like, 'Why would you do this?' People say, 'God knows your heart.' 'You [God] know my heart, why are you doing this to me? And why are you doing this to me for so long?'"

Papoose has four albums in his credits and his last project, Endangered Species, came out back in 2020. On the other hand, Reminisce was last seen in a TV movie titled Girl in the Closet.
