Duane Davis, aka Keefe D, claimed he spent years trying to collect the $1 million reward from Sean "Diddy" Combs for the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in a newly released audio clip.
On August 5, 2024, Mike Dorsey, the creator of the documentary Murder Rap: Inside the Biggie and Tupac Murders, released new audio of Keefe D's 2008 confession on YouTube. The video contains an audio clip wherein the alleged murder suspect accused Diddy of placing the hit on Tupac for $1 million and refusing to pay him after the murder.
Keefe D alleged he asked Eric "Von Zip" Martin, a Harlem-based gangster, to collect the money from Diddy, adding the gangster avoided him after this. Keefe finally met Martin about four to six weeks after the murder and asked him about the payment.
“'What’s up with the cash?' [Zip said], ‘[Diddy] ain’t give it to me yet.’ We need money, motherf*****. They took our guns, all that s***. We need some money. They must got millions," Keefe said in the audio.
Keefe D recounted several instances of trying to get the alleged bounty from Diddy
In the newly released audio from his 2008 confession, Keefe D recounted the many times he tried asking Diddy to pay the alleged $1 million bounty for Tupac's death. He added his associate Wynn Prince ran into Diddy at one of Snoop Dogg's parties, where Diddy gave him a number to pass on to Keefe. Keefe claimed he tried calling the number several times, but Diddy never picked up.
“If I would’ve seen his ass, ‘Gimme the jewelry and everything,’ you know? Stupid motherf*****. I said, ‘You let him give you a number?’ That was so stupid! Why you didn’t get the jewelry? He [Diddy] ain’t answer. That man got about 50 phones. He can throw that s*** away. He gets phones easy," Keefe said.
Keefe D also stated that he wanted to confront Diddy about the payment when the latter received a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008 but couldn't because of police presence at the premises. Keefe claimed he later met D'Mac, Martin's associate, who said Diddy paid a bounty to Martin, but Martin kept the money for himself.
Duane Davis also told the police that he would have kept quiet about Diddy's alleged involvement in Tupac Shakur's murder if he had received his half of the payment.
Keefe D, a former South Side Compton Crips gang member, was arrested on September 29, 2023, in connection to Tupac Shakur's murder. He was often thought to be the ringleader who planned Shakur's murder, which happened in a drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas.
Keefe has publically admitted to being in the car that was involved in the drive-by shooting, alleging his nephew Orlando Anderson carried out the shooting.
In 2008, Keefe D spoke about his alleged involvement in the murder in exchange for immunity during a PCP ring case with the Los Angeles Police. His violation of his proffer agreement ultimately led to his arrest in 2023. He is currently awaiting his trial scheduled for November 4, 2024.
