On August 29, 2024, ScarLip took to an Instagram Live session to accuse M&T Bank of racially profiling her when she went to transfer money. The rapper claimed the teller refused to make the transaction even after she handed over her credentials like I.D. and social security.

“Yo M&T bank is racist as f**k. Why when I go to this M&T bank, I’m being profiled on some weird s**t,” ScarLip said.

The rapper continued that the teller alleged they were "uncomfortable" making the transaction. ScarLip also said the teller noted her explanation of the transaction being "a business thing" as not good enough, claiming the bank needed more information.

“What the f**k you mean you don’t feel comfortable? B***h gimme my money. Now because you don’t feel comfortable, I’m taking my money out this bank, and I’m going to another bank. Because y’all n****s not about to be treating me all type of weird,” she said.

ScarLip added the teller threatened to call the police if the rapper didn't leave the bank. She also claimed to have felt judged the minute she walked into the bank.

She added she had video proof of the alleged racial profiling, saying she would sue the establishment if they didn't explain their behavior.

“M&T, y’all better talk to me for real, before I sue y’all. It’s one or the other ways; I’m suing y’all n****s or y’all gone give me a muthaf**kin explanation on why the f**k I’m being profiled tryna get my muthaf**kin money out the bank,” the rapper said on Instagram Live.

ScarLip got her onstage moniker from a real-life incident

Rappers are often known to adopt a pseudonym for their rap persona. Very rarely do rappers go by their real name. ScarLip is no different; however, the 23-year-old rapper's moniker stemmed from a real-life incident. Born Sierra Lucas, the Bronx rapper adopted the name ScarLip after an injury left her with a scar on her lips when she was 16.

ScarLip broke into the rap scene in 2022 with her TikTok trending song, Glizzy Gobbler. Since then, the rapper has released songs like This is New York and She's Hot. She is currently working on her debut EP, Scars & Stripes. However, it is unclear when the project will be released.

The rapper often appears on Instagram Live to connect with her fans. Her Instagram Live session in early August was marred by controversy after she abruptly left the stream when her boyfriend said she was pretty "sometimes."

During the Live, the rapper asked her boyfriend if he thought she looked pretty, to which he said:

“You’re beautiful, you heard? Sometimes.”

When the rapper questioned him on what he meant, he elaborated that she didn't look pretty at the moment. The rapper, who looked hurt, said:

“I’mma get out of here, ya’ll. I don’t feel like going Live no more."

Before leaving, she again turned towards her boyfriend and asked if he didn't think she was pretty, and he doubled down on his answer. Following this, the rapper left the screen.

Many fans came to her defense, criticizing her boyfriend. However, the rapper later went on social media to defend her partner, claiming they were "growing strong."
