In a recent series of public exchanges, Soulja Boy has reignited an ongoing rivalry with fellow rapper Plies, drawing the attention of fans and media outlets alike. On December 1, 2024, Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, took to his Instagram Live to address recent legal actions involving Plies, whose real name is Algernod Lanier Washington.

Plies has filed a lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla for using a sample from Soulja's track Wanna Be.

"I got rap n*gga suing me. Plies ain't got sh*t on me," Soulja Boy said on Instagram.

The recent lawsuit and Soulja's response have reignited the beef between the two rappers. According to XXL Magazine, the rivalry began in the early 2010s, with Soulja taking subtle jabs at Plies. While these early comments were not as aggressive, they were not often publicly documented.

Over the weekend, Soulja Boy took to his Instagram Live to address the recent lawsuit filed by Florida rapper Plies. During the live session, Soulja criticized Plies, telling him to sit down while showcasing a large display of cash and jewelry.

He commented that such displays were "irregular," further escalating the tension between the two artists.

"N*gga what? Sit your ass down somewhere, you crazy man. You right, this sh*t ain't normal. This sh*t irregular," Soulja said.

Furthermore, Soulja indicated that Plies should rename himself "Lies" because the Chicago rapper indicated that Plies is lying.

"What the f**k is wrong with you, Plies? You need to change your name to 'Lies,' 'cause you a muthaf**kin' liar… You know that ain't your muthaf**kin' beat, bro," Soulja added.

In addition to his recent remarks, Soulja Boy responded to Plies' lawsuit last month during an Instagram Live session.

The Chicago rapper called Plies a "snitch" and implied that Plies should target others if he genuinely believes his beats were stolen. Soulja also emphasized that his beats are original, defending his work against the allegations.

"That beat is all original music. You only could sue somebody if they sample your song and don't get it cleared. That is not a sample, bro... You gonna go snitch to the white man: 'He stole my beat!' Police-*ss n*gga, you a snitch," Soulja said.

The drama surrounding the Instagram Live session unfolded after Plies filed a lawsuit on November 7, 2024. He accused Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy of copyright infringement, alleging that the 2024 song Wanna Be contains an uncleared sample from his 2008 track Me & My Goons, according to Billboard.

"Defendant Soulja Boy authorized Megan thee Stallion and GloRilla to sample [his song]. [Wanna Be] incorporates substantial elements of the copyrighted material underlying 'Me & My Goons,' without authorization from plaintiffs," the lawsuit reads.

The two songs in question were released on vastly different timelines. Wanna Be debuted on April 5, 2024, while Me & My Goons was released on December 16, 2008. As of now, Plies' attorney has not disclosed which specific part of his track was allegedly sampled in Wanna Be.

The legal proceedings continue, but the outcome remains uncertain. Additionally, Plies has yet to respond to Soulja's comments made during his Instagram Live session.

Although not much of the public feud between Soulja Boy and Plies is documented, MrDaveYD reports that the two artists come from distinct sides of the rap spectrum.

Soulja is known for his digital-savvy, playful persona, while Plies is known for his more hardcore, street-based style. These differences have contributed to their tension, leading to subtle jabs at each other over the years.
