Nicki Minaj and Stephen A. Smith got into a feud after the former criticized Jay-Z for picking Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show headliner. Minaj took to the internet earlier this week to opine that Weezy must have been chosen to perform at the upcoming Super Bowl because it's being held in his hometown, New Orleans, Louisiana.
On the latest episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith took aim at Nicki Minaj for not cheering on Jay-Z considering how hard it was for a Black man to garner success in the music industry. Smith also criticized Minaj for repeatedly feuding with rappers, including the likes of Cardi B and Lil Kim. Smith said:
“Everytime we turn around it’s somethin’, Nicki. You disagree with the decision… You ain’t got to talk about the brother [Jay-Z] like that. And why are we talking about Jay-Z like he’s some damn sell-out or somethin’? Need I remind y’all all the hip-hop artists, all the R&B people that have been [performing at the Super Bowl halftime show over the last few years since he has been involved.”
Smith then stated that Nicki Minaj should not make the matter about herself but instead celebrate the achievements of all Black people. Smith stated, “it’s about us. All of us, as Black people.”
In response to the same, Nicki Minaj took to X to call the sports commentator names like "ugly," "laughy taffy alien" and "SAS Sassy a*s" and seemingly told him that his statements did not matter to her.
Nicki Minaj took to X to address Stephen A. Smith’s opinions
While calling Stephen A. Smith “ugly” and stating “we don’t care,” while referring to his opinions, Nicki Minaj added:
“Oh look yall another paid laughy taffy alien who only comes off his knees to turn around & back dat azz up. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.”
In another series of tweets, the Minaj claimed that Smith was “moanin & groanin on live.” She also questioned her followers:
“when should men just shave their full head? Should it take its normal course like SAS Sassy a*s or should he look into lace fronts?”
In the next tweets aimed at Stephen A. Smith, Minaj said:
“It’s no way yall don’t understand that sarcasm. Barbz it better only be the CF”
“All I need is a pair of clippers for dat half bald head & ima have S.A.S. SASSY tail self RUNNING BTCH !!! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz come here!!!!”
Nicki Minaj put Stephen A. Smith on blast after claiming on X that Jay-Z, who is also the Super Bowl’s music strategist since 2019, refused to let Lil Wayne headline the championship because of his hatred towards Birdman, Drake, and her. Minaj also said:
“Eminem stood firm on having 50 Cent come out. A white man. Sh*t sad. House NI***R TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty? Welp. then ni**az will keep son’ing you!!!!!"
Birdman, Drake, Ma$e, Cam’ron and Juvenile were some other rappers who also took to the internet to opine that Lil Wayne must have been chosen to take the championship’s stage in place of Kendrick Lamar.
The Super Bowl will be taking place on February 9, 2025.
