DJ Quik has come out to defend his longtime friend and vocalist, DeVante Swing, after Stevie J accused the artist of assault in a recent interview.
In a previous explosive conversation, Stevie J claimed DeVante Swing had once assaulted an artist from his team by slapping them. Following his allegations, DJ Quik defended Swing in an elaborate Facebook post and accused Stevie of being jealous of Swing's success. He wrote:
“I gotta share my two cents on what Stevie J shared in an interview about DeVanté Swing slapping his artist—that sh*t sounds made up. I've known DeVante for years and I consider him a homie. I think Stevie J’s got some serious jealousy issues when it comes to DeVanté’s talent and success.”
The rapper continued to accuse Stevie of having a personal vendetta against Swing and believed the former could never reach the success of the latter. He added:
“DeVanté’s a genius, man. He’s produced some of the biggest hits in R&B history, and he’s been doing it for decades. Stevie J, on the other hand, has had some success, but he can’t touch DeVanté’s level of genius. Stevie J’s been trying to discredit DeVanté for years. He’s always talking trash about him in interviews, trying to make him look bad. But at the end of the day, DeVanté’s still the one with the hits, the awards, and the respect of the industry.”
DJ Quik ended his rant by saying he does not understand "what Stevie J's problem is" and believes it is not about the music. The artist claimed Stevie has his own "insecurities and jealous". He also claimed that DeVante is not bothered by Stevie's alleged accusations.
The DJ ended his post by declaring Stevie a "hater" and DeVante Swing the "real MVP." The rapper also recently threatened to sue Instagram and other social media apps.
DJ Quik threatens to sue Instagram and other apps for violating his amendment rights
DJ Quik recently threatened to sue Instagram and other apps, claiming that the platforms violated his First Amendment rights. The rapper took to Instagram on August 16 and claimed it was time for him to take "legal action." He said:
“I think the time has come for me to file a class action lawsuit against this and other social media platforms for violating my first amendment rights."
In the caption, he added:
"I said what I said. And after, close this account altogether."
As per the First Amendment in the US Constitution, it states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
It is not clear in what reference the rapper accused Instagram and other social media sites of violating his rights. However, it appears DJ Quik felt his freedom of speech was hampered by these apps.
Hours after his post, Quik took to his Instagram stories and wrote a cryptic message claiming his lawyer told him he was wasting time on Instagram. He said:
"My lawyer just told me I’m wasting my time on Instagram.”
The rapper recently made news when he expressed his regret for not being able to attend Kendrick Lamar's Pop Out show held on June 19, 2024, in Los Angeles despite being a West Coast rapper. The event was hosted in honor of all artists from the West Coast.
Speaking to AllHipHop at the 2024 Bet Awards, the rapper revealed he had a prior commitment on the day of the concert. He said:
“I was knee deep in Canada when all that unity happened. I cried myself to sleep that night in the dumb-a*s Hilton hotel looking at you guys. I started hating. What did I tell you?"
DJ Quik was reportedly with Snoop Dogg conducting their summer tour during the time of Lamar's Pop Out show. The rapper revealed Snoop tried to make arrangements for them to fly back and be there to celebrate West Coast rappers' unity.
However, the duo would have missed one of their Canada shows if they had to fly back then.
