Stormzy and Maya Jama part ways after years together, confirmed in a joint statement:
On Wednesday, the duo announced their split via a joint statement shared on their Instagram stories. The post asserted that Stormzy and Maya fell in love "madly" in 2014 but broke up in 2019; the reason was not disclosed. They confirmed that in August 2023, they tried to make the relationship work, but now they have called it a "quit" officially —
"We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we've spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits," the post reads.
The post further elaborated, stating the significance of the period from August 2023 till July 2024, suggesting that they had grown together for five years and five years separately, so this reconciling period was needed to "figure out", and they found it would not work —
"We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn't work, and that's okay," the post added.
The joint post by Stormzy and Maya Jama further suggested that they will remain friends for the rest of their lives. Also, they advised their followers and media alike that if anyone sees them hanging out or engaging with each other, they must not make a "fuss" about it. The post also suggested that they would not have posted it but announced it to end rumours and speculations —
"Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we're doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours," the post reads.
They ended the post by suggesting that they are requesting understanding and respect from their fans and the public so that they can move on from their relationship without disturbance.
In late June 2024, the duo were spotted at the Glastonbury Festival enjoying and partying together, and in February 2024, Maya shared a cute Valentine's video on TikTok for Stormzy.
For now, the duo has not yet stated the reason for their split.
