Taylor Swift unveiled a new mashup during her Eras Tour performance in Liverpool on Saturday, June 15. Swift, 34, introduced her performance of Carolina and No Body No Crime at the start of her Saturday night's acoustic segment. She then said-
“This one, I’m gonna call this the ‘murder mashup’.”
Before switching to No Body No Crime, her collaboration with HAIM from the 2020 album Evermore, she performed Carolina, which was featured on the soundtrack for the murder mystery film Where the Crawdads Sing in 2022.
However, some Swifties believed that considering the time of the mashup, the song was a jab at her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. They quickly took to X to draw the parallels.
“And suddenly the murder mashup makes sense now. Good for her”, wrote a fan.
“Murder mashup after all this J in the media discourse. With the lyric I think he did it but I just can’t prove it over and over. I mean maybe not related, but funny anyway”, wrote another X user.
“Taylor's always got a way of keeping things interesting!” said another.
"OK, you have to give it to Taylor. A murder mashup right before she heads to London is hysterical”, another fan wrote.
Glamour recorded that these are perhaps a reference to Swift's Lover song London Boy, which the British actor is credited as inspiring.
“Two graves, one gun,” another fan commented.
“After reading the yb interview”, one fan wrote, referring to Alwyn's initial job and the moniker "yogurt boy."
“Giggle. I thought it was funny when she said that but no one else seemed to so I … just.. kept .. quiet.. Shhh”, wrote another fan, hinting at something mysterious.
Taylor Swift’s performance of the Murder Mashup drew in tons of speculations from her fans
The murder mashup that Taylor Swift introduced at her most recent Eras Tour event surprised the audience. While joking with the crowd, Swift said that it was her "favorite part of the show" and acknowledged that she feels under pressure every night to "mess this up."
She then announced to the Anfield Stadium audience that she was going to refer to it as the murder mashup.
The concert coincided with Taylor Swift’s ex, Joe Alwyn's announcement of his breakup from his long-term partner, Taylor, in 2023, after almost seven years. The Kinds of Kindness actor also addressed how their fans reacted to his and Swift's separation after they officially announced their split last year.
Fans believe Taylor Swift's "murder mashup" was a jab at her former partner Joe Alwyn. They were quick to point out that Swift's song Carolina was from the 2022 murder mystery film Where the Crawdads Sing, while No Body No Crime is from her album Evermore which tells the story of a woman killing her cheating husband.
The lyrics that the Grammy winner wrote for No Body No Crime-
“Her husband’s acting different and it smells like infidelity.”
On the other hand, in the song for the movie, Where the Crawdad Sings, Taylor Swift sang-
“Carolina stains / On the dress she left / Indelible scars, pivotal mark.”
Glamour reported that, therefore, several people believed that Swift was subtly responding to Alwyn's recent Sunday Times interview, on June 16, which was released the day of her farewell performance in Liverpool.
However, one must note that these are all speculations and Taylor Swift didn’t officially make a statement regarding these theories.
