The aftermath of Drake's feud with Kendrick Lamar continued when the Canadian rapper was spotted wearing a shirt that said "Free Yano." This came just hours after TDE rapper ScHoolboy Q announced that his Toronto show scheduled for July 17 was canceled.
Fans who saw the picture Drizzy posted on his Instagram handle @champagnepapi connected the dots and speculated whether the shirt was a reference to rapper Tony Yano's comments about the highly-publicized rap battle.
In a June interview with VladTV, G-Unit rapper Tony Yano claimed that some rappers refused to pick sides in the feud as they feared they wouldn't be allowed to perform in Canada again.
“You can’t really give your opinion because n***as still wanna go to Canada. You don’t wanna say something about Drake and now you can’t go to Canada. You got wild n***as in Canada like Pressa, Bun, and Top5," he said.
Many fans believed this proved true when ScHoolboy Q, currently signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), where Lamar was also previously signed, took to social media to allude that Canada does not want anyone associated with TDE.
Netizens speculate about Drake's new story and ScHoolboy Q's canceled Toronto show
Netizens speculated if there was a correlation between Drizzy wearing a "Free Yano" shirt years after the rapper was released from prison in 2004 and ScHoolboy Q's Toronto show being canceled.
A deep dive also revealed that History, the venue where ScHoolboy Q was scheduled to perform, is owned by the Canadian rapper in collaboration with Live Nation Entertainment.
This prompted people to wonder if Drizzy had anything to do with ScHoolboy Q's Toronto show, scheduled on July 18, being unceremoniously canceled.
"Schoolboy Q was supposed to perform at the venue History in Toronto...that's literally Drake's venue he definitely was not about to have Q crip walking on his stage while Canadians yell OvH**," one person tweeted.
"Drake owns Eminem’s iconic Free Yayo shirt. The beef with Kendrick is not over. Schoolboy Q got his show cancelled in Toronto now Drake posting this pic means something. Drake had DJ Whoo Kid at the beginning of Push Ups and the G-Unit spinner in Family Matters. Remember that," added another person.
"Gonna go ahead and blame Drake for Schoolboy Q’s Toronto concert being cancelled just as I continue to blame Drake for Meg not scheduling a single tour stop anywhere in Canada," commented someone else.
"ScHoolboy Q's show in Toronto got cancelled after being sold out, Q claims that police shut it down. What it sounds like to me is that Drake has banned opposition from the 6 and Canada as a whole. It's gonna be real interesting the next time Drake visits California," wrote another person.
However, these are all speculations as no proof exists that the Canadian rapper was responsible for ScHoolboy Q's Toronto show cancelation.
ScHoolboy Q's comments about his Toronto show cancellation
ScHoolboy Q's 'Blue Lips Weekend' Tour was expected to kick off in Toronto on July 18. The tour was a special offer only to the fans who could prove they bought his Blue Lips album or related merchandise.
However, the day before the Toronto show, ScHoolboy Q tweeted that his show in Toronto was canceled at the last minute, jesting that Canadian police did not want anyone from TDE to perform in the 6 God's home country.
The tweet quickly went viral, with over 4.2 million views at the time of this article. In his follow-up tweets, the rapper reassured fans that this was not a serious issue between TDE and OVO, adding that TDE's founder, Anthony Tiffith, had met Lil Wayne after the feud.
He also said that OVO's PARTYNEXTDOOR performed a show in Los Angeles in June, alluding to no bad blood between the camps.
"TOP was just wit Wayne & Baby smH partynextdoor just Had a sHow @ tHe palladium if we wanted to get yall we would’ve just did it.. now wHen sumbody get Hurt don’t cry…" he tweeted.
ScHoolboy Q also said that the situation was "Lokey Hilarious," wondering if this happened because he was in Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us music video. He clarified that none of his tweets were meant as threats, just advice.
ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar have often collaborated and were a part of Black Hippy with Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. ScHoolboy was also at Lamar's Juneteenth show 'The Pop Out: Ken & Friends,' where Lamar performed most of his diss songs.
