Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, has been serving his 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution after he was convicted on three gun charges for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2022.
While Tory has continued to release music from behind bars, like his 2024 EP Prison Tapes, the rapper's older songs have begun garnering attention following Megan being granted a restraining order against him.
After Megan was granted a restraining order against Tory Lanez, several popular hip-hop media outlets began reposting his 2022 record, CAP, alongside stills from the song's official music video which seemingly takes shots at the WAP rapper.
In the music video, Tory can be seen performing in a butcher's shop, chopping down on what appears to be a horse's leg, which is a very noticeable reference to Megan's artistic moniker "The Stallion".
In another instance, Tory grabs a microphone out of a reporter's hands, while seemingly standing outside a courtroom, as he aggressively raps:
"Ayy, it's some n****s I don't like / So I'm throwin' signs in the street, I'm on strike, yeah / It's on sight, so I said it's on sight, uh / B***hes tryna end me, so I can not be polite, uh"
Megan reportedly saw these as threats against her life and requested a 5-year restraining order against the Canadian rapper, who is still serving time in prison and is expected to be released in 2033.
Tory Lanez's lawyer, Michael Hayden, commented on the CAP music video in a recent press statement where he clarified that the rapper was expressing himself through art while agreeing that scenes in the visualizer may have been a "little harsh".
"I guess you could call it speech. Because he was expressing himself through art. I don't think he'll do something like that again. I think that nothing like that is going to come about," Michael Hayden stated.
Hayden also expressed that both rappers are currently on the same page regarding their legal issues, claiming that neither party wants any further interactions with each other, stating:
"I think he wants to mind his business. She wants to mind her business."
Tory even appeared to take shots at Megan Thee Stallion's ex-boyfriend Pardison Fontaine, who many allege works as a ghostwriter for Cardi B. According to bars in CAP, Lanez claimed to be expecting a subliminal shot in one of Cardi's records, as evidenced by lines like:
"The casa, the migo, that sh*t right where I'm at / He would say somethin' back, but he need Cardi B for that," Tory Lanez rapped on 'CAP'.
Megan Thee Stallion granted 5-year restraining order against Tory Lanez
This week (Jan. 9), Megan Thee Stallion's request for a restraining order against Tory Lanez was granted by Judge Richard Bloom.
The presiding Judge granted her a 5-year restraining order against the Canadian rapper, citing that she had "sustained burden of proof" after Megan claimed that Tory had been harassing her from behind bars.
According to reports, Megan claimed that Tory had hired bloggers and third-party individuals to harass her online. Their legal discourse stems from a 2020 shooting, where Tory was convicted of shooting Megan in her foot while returning from a Hollywood Hill pool party at Kylie Jenner's house.
Her latest filing against Tory Lanez follows the expiration of her previous motion, which was in place from 2020 to 2023. Megan's request described the convicted rapper as a violent and dangerous criminal, with her legal team claiming:
"[Tory had an] established pattern of behavior [demonstrating] the reasons this civil harassment restraining order is necessary to protect Ms. Pete and her wellbeing."
Variety reported that court reporter Meghann Cuniff was present in the Los Angeles courtroom this past Thursday, where Megan testified for her restraining order over a video call, where she was quoted saying:
"I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it"
While the prosecution initially argued for a 13-year prison sentence, Tory Lanez was officially convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison on December 23, 2022.
The jury found him guilty of three felony crimes, which included assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and Discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
