On Sunday, December 8, Jay-Z was included as a defendant in an amended s*xual assault lawsuit that initially included only Diddy's name. The lawsuit, filed by the Texas native attorney, Toy Buzbee, comes a week after M.I.A. spoke up about her experience of signing to Roc Nation - Jay-Z's record label.
In a video obtained and uploaded by Livebitez on November 30, M.I.A. was captured saying:
"Even when I met Jay-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do is get plastic surgery... I’m not insecure because I would’ve got plastic surgery."
M.I.A. continued:
"So their argument of, ‘Maya’s f***ing insecure, that’s why she needs to f***ing massage her ego,’ fails. It fails. Fails because you turn around and ask … What women do you know who hasn’t had plastic surgery around [Jay-Z]?"
Then pointing out that every female singer or rapper signed to Jay-Z's label had gotten plastic surgery, adding that she was the only one who hadn't. This fact, per M.I.A., proved that she was not insecure.
The rapper signed to Roc Nation in May 2012. After roughly a year and a half, she announced her decision to leave the record label on December 13, 2013.
M.I.A.'s video was followed by a s*xual assault lawsuit against Jay-Z by an anonymous plaintiff
M.I.A. accused Diddy of demanding plastic surgery, followed by a s*xual assault lawsuit filed about a week later by an anonymous Jane Doe, who claimed that both Diddy and the Jay-Z rapper assaulted her in 2000 when she was only 13 years old.
According to the lawsuit, Jane was taken to an MTV VMAs afterparty on September 7, 2000, in New York, where she was given a drink that made her feel "woozy and lightheaded."
Once the drug mixed in the drink had allegedly taken effect, both Diddy and Jay-Z took turns r*ping her. The girl later escaped by hitting Combs in the neck as he was assaulting her and ran to a patrol station. From there, Doe was collected by her father.
The lawsuit, submitted by Tony Buzbee, was first filed in October 2024, with the Marcy Me rapper mentioned as "Celebrity A" at the time, and Diddy being its only defendant. However, last Sunday, Buzbee reamended the lawsuit, adding Jay-Z as a co-defendant.
Jay-Z released a statement denying the assault charges made in the lawsuit
In response to the s*xual assault lawsuit, Jay-Z denied the allegations in a statement posted on Roc Nation's Instagram and X accounts on December 9. He called the demand letter from Tony Buzbee, which urged him to settle, "a blackmail attempt," citing the nature of the allegations and the public scrutiny they would bring.
The 55-year-old added that Buzbee's blackmail attempt made him want to expose the attorney's fraud in a "very public fashion." Jay-Z then implored him to file a criminal complaint for such heinous crimes, and not a civil one, adding:
"These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case. This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics!"
The rapper went on to say that his only heartbreak was for his family, especially his children - Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir - all of whom are under 16. Expressing his dismay at his children having to hear about these allegations, the father of 3 said:
"I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age. It is unfair to have to try to understand inexplicable degrees of malice meant to destroy families and human spirit."
Towards the end of his statement, the 55-year-old claimed that Buzbee had made "a terrible mistake" in categorizing all celebrities as the same, referring to his humble beginnings and talking about his "strict codes of honor" which dictated them to protect children and not exploit them for their personal gain, which the attorney was allegedly doing.
A trial on the s*xual assault lawsuit against Jay-Z and Combs is likely to take place following May 5, 2025, after Diddy's trial begins next year. The Bad Boy Records owner is currently held in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Correctional Center.
