In a new interview with Billboard, A$AP Rocky was asked about Playboi Carti and whether Rocky could consider him the future of rap. Rocky ended up acknowledging Carti and recalled the collaborations they were part of. In the conversation, A$AP Rocky said:

"That's where rap is. I knew that's what it was going to be. What do people expect? We not just signing people to be signing people. We want to be the best of the best, and that's all it is, and his sh*t speaks for itself."

Playboi Carti, who was signed to AWGE in 2016, was reportedly impacted by the record label founded in 2014 by Rocky. For the unversed, Carti was first associated with the label when he appeared in A$AP Mob's single Telephone Calls in 2016, shortly before he signed with the label.

In the interview, A$AP Rocky also explained the statistical side of Playboi's success in the industry. He continued by stating:

"Statistically, what I'm saying is right. Sonically, theoretically, what I'm saying is right."

In the interview, Rocky also credited his record label for being associated with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Playboi Carti meeting with A$AP Rocky and signing with AWGE became a major turning point in his career

Playboi Carti became close to the members of A$AP Mob at the beginning of his career. He also came across A$AP Bari, who introduced him to A$AP Rocky. This meeting became useful for Carti, who went to Texas with Rocky. Talking about AWGE's influence on the music industry over the past years, Rocky told Billboard in the latest interview:

"Because there's a Pharrell (Williams) that comes with (each) generation. There's a Jay-Z that comes with (each) generation. There's a Kanye West that comes with (each) generation. There's a 50 Cent that comes with (each) generation. The people that's been most influential in the past 10 years, nine times out of 10 comes out of our camp. If not, we rubbed off on them, or they picked up some type of influence."

While Rocky believed Carti could be the future of rap, it is worth knowing more about the 28-year-old rapper. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he officially launched his debut album, Die Lit, in March 2018. His second studio album, Whole Lotta Red, was released in 2020. The albums were released under the AWGE record label.

Fans are now waiting for the release of his latest and third studio album, which is expected to be released sometime this year. As of now, the title of the album has reportedly been teased to be I Am Music. Playboi Carti announced that he was working on a new project about three months after he dropped his second studio album, which received immense success.

The album was initially expected to be named Narcissist and was set to be released in September 2021. However, the date passed, and no album release happened. Fans are now eagerly waiting for its release.
