Sam Asghari shared what it was like dating and being married to Britney Spears amid her conservatorship battle. For the unversed, Spears met Asghari back in 2016, and they have been together since before getting married in June 2022, although the two separated 14 months after their wedding. According to Rolling Stone, Sam Asghari filed to divorce Britney Spears in August 2023, and it was finalized by May 2024.
Asghari joined actor siblings Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson for the Monday, January 27, episode of their Sibling Revelry podcast. He opened up about his years-long relationship with the pop princess in the interview. The actor and model said that his and Spears' romance was going "really well," but he was shocked to learn about her conservatorship, which she was under from 2008 to 2021. He said:
"I was like, wait a minute. Like I thought I'm in America. What do you mean?... What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?"
He told the Hudson siblings during the podcast that Britney Spears' conservatorship was by far "the weirdest thing to deal with" during their relationship. He said that it surprised him because he thought that fame-related stuff would be the hardest thing for someone like Spears to deal with in Hollywood.
Britney Spears' ex continued saying that among "the hardest things to deal with" in the entertainment industry, which he later found, was one's parents and the people around them. He said that those people can take advantage of or damage someone because they are the closest people to that person. He added:
"Usually, the people that are around you, the people that you allow into your circle, you kind of are vulnerable to them."
Referencing Spears' conservatorship, he said:
"That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I've witnessed in my life ever."
Asghari also mentioned that, at the time, the best thing he could do for his then-partner Spears was to "provide support" for her.
Sam Asghari said he will always be "grateful" for his relationship with Britney Spears despite their divorce
Besides opening up about getting a "crash course in Hollywood" during his relationship with Britney Spears, particularly in dealing with her conservatorship, Sam Asghari said that he was "grateful" for the years they had spent together. He further shared during the Sibling Revelry podcast:
"I'm always gonna be grateful and happy that it ever even happened."
It wasn't the first time Asghari looked back on his years with Spears with fondness, and he continued to wish her the best despite their divorce. Asghari previously told People magazine in an interview released in March 2024, that he had no ill feelings toward his ex-wife. He said that talking badly about Britney Spears was something he would never do.
He also told Page Six on January 4, 2025:
"I just wish her the best. I think that the number one factor of a partner is to be there for one another, no matter what."
As for Britney Spears' future, Sam Asghari mentioned that he would want her to do "whatever makes her happy," whether it includes making new music, making her memoir into a movie, or rebuilding her relationship with her kids.
Sam Asghari joined the cast of The Traitors season 3, which premiered on Peacock on January 9, 2025.
