Big Sean denied the rumors that Kanye West, also known as Ye, was behind his new album being leaked. He also announced the album's release date during an Instagram Live session on July 18, 2024. The rapper's sixth studio album, titled Better Me Than You, will be released on August 9, 2024.

On Instagram Live, Big Sean stated that he did not believe Ye had anything to do with his album being leaked, which occurred earlier this week when a user named bigseandon811 posted 14 tracks allegedly from Sean's upcoming album online.

"Someone told me Ye did it. I know Ye ain’t did that. I know he ain’t. Ain’t no f***ing way. You see this plaque right here? That’s 185 million records sold under G.O.O.D. Music. I love G.O.O.D. Music. N**** done made more money off my music than I did,” he said.

He added that he would never leak anyone's music and continued, that whoever started the rumor about Ye leaking his songs was on "some bulls***."

Why was Big Sean's album leaked?

On July 17, 2024, Big Sean performed a freestyle rap on On The Radar, where his line, “I got better things to do than find someone to beef with,” sparked online scrutiny in the wake of the highly sensationalized beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Many online perceived the line to be a jab against Lamar. However, that rumor was quickly dispelled by media personality DJ Hed, who tweeted:

"I talked to Sean. The bar was ‘I got better things to do then find someone to beef with’ And it was not for Dot. Bar was directed at a different Gemini."

This led to speculation that the diss was directed towards Ye, who is also a Gemini. Big Sean was signed with Ye's G.O.O.D. Music label for 14 years but decided to part ways in October 2021. Following this, Kanye West said he regretted signing Sean in an interview in November 2021.

As DJ Hed's tweet circulated online, bigseandon811 took offense to the alleged diss and reportedly leaked 14 tracks, alleging they were from Sean's new album.

"Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album, f**k him and his whole team. Ye told me to leak it," the user wrote before leaking the album, as reported by Variety.

According to Variety, the leak kicked off with a song called Nintendo Switch Superstar. The leaks also showed features from Nas and Charlie Wilson. The leaker called the album Feelings & Random Thots, suggesting that an alternate name could be Better Me Than You.

Following the leak, Big Sean took immediate action and began releasing snippets of an upcoming track with The Alchemist from the new album, adding that he might as well release the songs before they all get leaked.

Better Me Than You is Big Sean's first studio album in four years, following Detroit 2 in 2020 and an EP with Hit-Boy named What You Expect in 2021. The new album will be out on August 9, with pre-sales and vinyls now available on the rapper's website.
