Rapper 50 Cent has lashed out at singer Keith Sweat for planning to skip the Humor and Harmony festival in Shreveport, Louisiana in August.

His reaction came after Sweat allegedly claimed he would only perform in the event via Zoom as 50 Cent refused to attend the ceremony where he will reportedly be handed the Key to the NYC on August 3. Keith Sweat hails from New York City.

On July 26, 50 Cent took to Instagram to call out Sweat for bailing out on his performance in a video. He wrote in the caption,

"This @keithsweat is tripping, he getting Diddy’s Key to the city Aug’s 3. They blocking off streets in Harlem for him. Now if he don’t show up in Shreveport, we ain’t f*cking with him no more."

50 Cent also shared a clip of an alleged phone call on social media and attempted to pressure the singer by exposing details of their private agreement. The rapper said in his video,

“This n---- Keith Sweat is tripping, man. N---- talking ‘bout he not gonna come to the Humor & Harmony thing. He gonna do the show from his bedroom on Zoom. I said they took Diddy’s Key to the City. Eric Adams took Diddy’s Key to the City and giving it to Keith, and now he acting like ‘cause I can’t make it—I can’t be there on the 3rd, man. That n----- crazy.”

The Humor and Harmony festival, organized by 50 Cent, is to take place between August 8 to 11. Keith Sweat was to perform at the festival on August 10 at the Municipal Auditorium. Some other singers set to perform at the festival are DaBaby, Cam'ron, Monica, and French Montana.

According to the official website of Rise Up NYC, Keith Sweat will receive the Entertainer's Key to his hometown, New York City, in a ceremony on August 3, 2024. The award will honor the R&B artist's contribution to the music industry.

The Entertainer's Key to the NYC previously belonged to rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs. However, Combs was stripped of his Key to the NYC after his assault video featuring former girlfriend Cassie Ventura came to light.

Keith Sweat's musical career began in the 1980s. He was born and brought up in Harlem, New York City. Sweat's father, Charles Sweat, was a factory worker and his mother, Juanita Sweat, was a hairdresser. He lost his father at an early age, while his mother raised him and his four siblings.

Black Past noted Keith Sweat attended an unnamed high school in New York City until he was 12 years old. During this time, he developed a passion for music and began playing at various venues across the Big Apple.

The R&B icon graduated with a degree in communications from the City College of New York. After finishing college, he also worked as a brokerage assistant at Wall Street for some time. However, he continued making music and sold some of it to NYC labels.

Sweat's official musical career began in 1975 when he joined a Harlem-based band named Jamilah as their lead singer. Jamilah performed in various locations, mainly in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Keith Sweat played for the group until 1984 and then pursued his solo career.

He sang at New York City nightclubs until 1984 and finally landed an opportunity to record an independent album in the same year. Therefore, New York City played an essential role in Sweat's rise and development as a musician. Some of Keith's iconic songs in his debut album, Make It Last Forever, include I Want Her, Something Just Ain't Right, Make It Last Forever, and Don't Stop Your Love.

He also released more albums during the 1990s and 2000s and produced hits like I'll Give All My Love to You, Make You Sweat, Merry Go Round and Your Love - Part 2.
