Rapper Skilla Baby recently took to social media and threatened to sue his hometown police over claims of alleged harassment. The rapper, whose name is Trevor Gardner, hails from the city of Detroit, Michigan.
On July 7, Skilla Baby shared a video on Instagram, in which he spoke about the alleged harassment he faced when he last visited Detroit. He described a few encounters with different Detroit police officials and specifically mentioned Lieutenant Dan Rue.
“I am not no activist or nothing, so I don’t like doing this type of sh*t. But every time I perform at home fire marshals or Detroit police always come shut me down. I already like, I don’t even know what I be doing but they always come shut me down," he said.
The rapper then spoke about Lieutenant Rue and claimed that the official tried to get him "kicked out" from every event.
"And I got one officer that just always pick on me. His name is Lieutenant Rue. I think he is the real name, Lieutenant Dan Rue or something. Every event I’m at, he always try to get kicked out," he added.
He then spoke about specific instances when Lieutenant Rue allegedly harassed him and threatened to take action by suing the city.
"I’m just like, the next thing I’m going to do is sue the city. So I’m going to sue the DPD for keep putting him [Rue] at my events, bro. I ain’t going to lie. I’m going to sue the city,” he said in the clip.
This came after Skilla Baby performed at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre in Detroit over the weekend.
"Lieutenant Rue you crazy": Skilla Baby threatens to sue the city over alleged misconduct
In his July 7 video on Instagram, Skilla Baby mentioned a few instances where a Detroit PD official Lieutenant Rue allegedly harassed him. He mentioned that he does a lot for his city but is never respected for the same. The rapper called Rue "crazy" and said:
“I just pour into my city. I got people records expunged. I give houses away and they don’t respect me for it. I’m only 25. It is kind of crazy. My boy, Lieutenant Rue you crazy. I just want to bring awareness to Lieutenant Rue. Lieutenant Rue. You a crazy man. And I ain’t going to lie.”
The rapper also claimed that Rue allegedly called him a "murderer" to stop him from attending events at Ford Field and also made him change the venue for one of his events at the last minute. However, he expressed fear and admitted that he could not do much to the police official. He then went on to threaten to sue the DPD and said:
“There’s nothing I can do to beat you. You a police, you feel me? There’s nothing I can do. I can’t tell on you. I’m not going to tell on you. I’m just like, the next thing I’m going to do is sue the city,".
Despite speaking about alleged unpleasant experiences in Detroit, Skilla Baby spoke highly of his hometown ahead of his weekend show at Aretha Franklin Amphitheater. As per CBS, the rapper said:
"Detroit made me me. Like, everything about Detroit, I try to represent so Detroit is Detroit. It's my favorite place to be and I don't want to be nowhere else."
Skilla Baby also mentioned that he would do anything for his city and his community.
Skilla Baby claims nobody in Detroit believes Eminem is the "best Detroit rapper"
The rapper made headlines after the July 2 episode of the podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer, hosted by Palmer, during which he claimed that no one in Detroit was currently listening to Eminem's work.
"I don't know because if you think number-wise Eminem is the best Detroit rapper. But the gag is nobody would say that in Detroit," he said.
Keke asked Skilla who he would consider the best rapper from Detroit if not the Houdini singer, but he did not have a straightforward answer. Instead, he said that "everybody had their turn being Detroit's favorite rapper." He then noted that what these artists "lack is consistency" and mentioned that "nobody's consistently been Detroit's best rapper."
In the end, Skilla Baby said he is personally a "fan of Eminem" but does not think Detroit considers him the best rapper hailing from the city.
