On October 25, 2024, Mariah the Scientist made an appearance on Caresha Please podcast and opened up about dating Lil Yachty during their college years. Stating how she has known the rapper for a very long time, the singer said:
"We dated. I actually met him in high school, but by the time I got to college, we started dating a little bit. I was just a broke college student.”
Furthermore, she also revealed that she had written two songs for the rapper, which he initially declined to listen to. Recalling how she gifted him the tracks on an iPod, Mariah the Scientist mentioned:

While Mariah did not share the details of exactly when and how Mariah and Lil Yachty met, she only specified that she was in high school when she met the rapper.
In a previous interview with Glitter magazine released on November 15, 2019, Mariah revealed that she "attended St. John’s University in New York on a biology scholarship." Before that, she studied in Southwest DeKalb High School.

As per Hot New Hip Hop, there have also been rumors in the past that the rapper had got one of Mariah’s friends pregnant. However, Lil Yachty dismissed these claims too, as the media outlet quoted his words:

While Lil Yachty and Mariah the Scientist have never worked together professionally, the One Night singer is currently enjoying the success of his collaborative studio album with James Blake, called Bad Cameo.
