Cat Glover, the choreographer and dancer who famously danced with Prince onstage during his Sign o' the Times tour, has passed away at 60. She died in her home in Los Angeles, but the date and reason for her passing remain undisclosed.
Her Facebook page confirmed her death in an official statement shared on Tuesday, September 24, which reads:
"It's with great sadness that we formally announce the passing of Catherine Vernice Glover—AKA "Cat." Please allow her children, family, and friends privacy at this difficult time. A further statement will be released in due course."
The statement ends with a quote that reads:
"Dance with the Angels, we love you."
Glover worked with Prince in the late 1980s during his Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy era. And while she only worked with the legendary musician for about two years, Cat Glover's vibrant onstage presence made her famous.
Cat Glover previously said that listening to Prince got her through depression
Cat Glover first made a name for herself when she competed in Star Search, and long before she worked with Prince on numerous projects, she was a fan of the music icon. She was particularly fond of the singer's 1980 album Dirty Mind.
She recalled to Chicago Crusader in 2016 that she wanted to meet the singer because his music had helped her a great deal. She said:
"The only thing that got me through my depression from everything was listening to Prince's album, Dirty Mind. I knew I had to meet him. That was me talking to my inner self."
It wasn't the first time Cat Glover expressed her admiration for the musical icon. She famously told Video Soul in 1987 that she's "always idolized him" and called Prince "great."
She also recalled sitting in a studio, watching the singer do what he does best, and her reaction was, 'My God, he's incredible, he really is.'
As for working with Prince onstage, Glover explained to Housequake in 2006 that the singer first asked her if she would dance with him. She added that the music icon later inquired if she "wanted to be in the group."
Glover joined the band in 1986, and she choreographed and danced during Prince's Sign o' the Times concert film. She also hit the road with the group for Prince's Lovesexy Tour in 1988.
However, dancing wasn't the only thing she did with Prince as Glover also provided the rap for the music icon's hit Alphabet St. Before her rap, Prince can be heard shouting, "Cat, we need you to rap." She also worked with Prince's music videos, like in his 1987 hit single U Got the Look, where Cat Glover can be seen dragging Prince high up on the stage.
She left Prince's band in 1989 to pursue a solo career and release her Catwoman album that same year.
Cat Glover's survivors include three daughters and a son.
