Christopher Ciccone, Madonna's younger brother, and her creative consultant before they had a falling out in 2008, has died at age 63. His representative confirmed that he passed away on Friday, October 4, after a long battle with cancer. The statement also mentioned that he died "peacefully" with his husband, Ray Thacker, by his side.
Madonna also confirmed her brother's death via an Instagram post on Monday, October 7, where the Material Girl hitmaker looked at their time together. She wrote:
"My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human to me for so long. It's hard to explain our bond. But it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for following the status quo."
The singer also recalled how "dance" was something they had in common and how it saved both of them. She mentioned holding each other's hands and dancing "through the madness of our childhood." Madonna considered dance as the "superglue" that held her and her brother together and how when she went to New York to become a dancer, her brother also followed.
The Queen of Pop also recalled not being in contact with Christopher Ciccone for some time but added that they "found out way back to each other" when he got sick. They reportedly had a falling out after Ciccone released his book Life With My Sister Madonna in 2008. The singer alluded to being with her brother at the end of his life, noting that he was "in so much pain" before his passing.
Everything to know about Madonna's brother, Christopher Ciccone, who died from cancer

He later became the musical icon's creative director, which she recalled in her latest Instagram post. She wrote:
"We danced together on stage in the beginning of my career and eventually, he became the Creative Director, of many tours. When it came to good taste, my brother was the Pope, and you had to kiss the ring to get his blessing."
Christopher Ciccone directed several of his sister's tours and music videos, including the 1993 The Girlie Show world tour and the Blond Ambition world tour in 1990. He also reportedly worked in directing music videos for other well-known artists like Tony Bennet and Dolly Parton.
Besides working as an art director and production design director, he also worked as a dresser and creative consultant for Madonna as well as an interior designer for her new apartment in 1985. It was his first foray into interior design, which he recalled in a Northern Express interview in 2020.
He had his brand, Christopher Ciccone Design, and one of his furniture designs for Bernhardt Furniture was chosen to be used in President Bill Clinton's New York City Office, per his website bio. He worked with different organizations, including AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and New York's Living with AIDS Foundation.
